I think the joke is you. I'm happy with my RX8, all $33,000 of it and I am tired of hearing rants about how the RX8 sucks. And this is the first rotary I've ever owned. If you're so unhappy with the RX8, then do something about it instead of whining on a forum. Cut your losses and trade it in for something else. If you can't afford the $3,000-$5,000 loss you'll get on the trade in, then you probably can't afford a $33,000 car in the first place.

Have to 2nd everything everyone else has said here....

-you were rear ended?....damn car!
-you saw some video of someone elses car with someone else driving it and didn't like it?...damn car!
-you heard someone say you had to weld the rear doors shut?....damn car!
-MPG isn't what you wanted even though you admit to "racing it"?....damn car!

I could go on but you get the picture. Most of what you are saying has to do with "other people" say about the car. If that's the case, get a new set of friends because they are clearly jealous of your ride.

When I got the buy back letter, I went back and redrove the 350Z and the G35C with my 17 year old son. He put it all into perspective for me. Everytime we got back into the RX8 after driving those other cars, he said...."ya know, the RX8 still drives better and is more fun than those other cars, why would you consider giving it back? did'ya notice all the sales guys checking out your RX8?" This from a 17 year old that thinks a spoilered/modded civic or Mustang is the best thing since sliced bread.....

'nuff said!

Tell us Efini 8,

If you can't escalate a problem with service at a car dealership, how on earth are you going to make it through the rest of your life???

Are you to sort of person that gets served a wrong meal by a waiter and then spends the next five years telling people about it?

The only valid comment about the car is MPG ... that's been done to death.

I bet the people at your Mazda service centre have a great chuckle to themselves when they get you all upset and turning red while you tell how unfair everything is.

Honestly, if you've got this upset over a situation that you put youself in, you've got bigger problems than the car you're driving.

Efini,
Okay, you've expressed your gripes. We've read your thread (s). We know how you feel about the 8.
So, no need to post any further or longer, eh?

Also my damn EMPTY Fuel light keeps going off when I do not need fuel. It will go off and when I am in a panic to hurry and find a gas station in an unfamiliar area, it decides to go back up to NO light and a little below 1/4 tank (between 1/4 full and empty). This is NOT a good feeling, I was sweating and **** panicing to find gas all the time... I hate that.
The structural stiffness is greater than most production cars out there, and I'd guarantee it's greater than many of the other stock chassis that get used in the JGTC. So what's YOUR problem with the structural stiffness? Are you claiming you actually can tell that it's not stiff enough, or are you looking for any tiniest excuse to whine? This one is really pathetic. If there's a rules problem, it's probably because of the 'freestyle' doors rather than regular doors - or maybe other JGTC 4 doors have to have the rear doors welded shut anyway? Check out many of the pro race series over here lately? Notice how many have all the doors welded shut? You are really sad.

As for the fuel light - there's a damn guage - why the hell do you wait for the light? Just fill up when it hits a 1/4, or even 1/2! If you had EVER owned another car with a fuel light before, you would know that most ALL cars do this! The fuel level isn't constant - the quantity is, but the level changes as the gasoline sloshes around with acceleration or braking, driving up hill or down hill. That the nature of automobile fuel tanks, it has nothing to do with the RX-8.

My advice - sell the car. You'll be equally unhappy with your next car, because your expectations are unrealistic, but at least you'll be whining on some other forum.

Good lord, if you're impressed by Hummer statistics then you really don't deserve to be driving a sports car.

Regards,
Gordon

It doesn't sound like you are sorry about ranting but nice try at a disclaimer anyways. And from the responses to your post, I don't think that many owners share your views on this matter. I think you are trying to get people to feel sorry for you...but I feel sorry for your RX-8. After all, it's not the cars fault for getting rear ended.

I guess that your answer is . . . No. Nobody else does seem to feel the same way.

Look, the kid seems to have a serious case of buyer's remorse. Can we stop lambasting him? Yeah, he probably bought the wrong car to meet his expectations of cool and hip or whatever, and personally, I couldn't care less. The car runs right? That's really all it has to do, but I think the point is made. We don't agree with the kid that the car is bad. I love mine, and I too have been rear-ended, oddly enough by a drunk college kid. I don't now hate the car or even college kids. I kind of dislike the one, but hey that seems natural.

I personally, believe that Efini8 should shut up, hunker down and learn to love his car because he is probably stuck with it for a while. If he has the means then he should probably turn it in. After this experience of extreme buyer's remorse he will prbably LOVE a hyundai just because it isn't the 8. It's all emotional and noone can change that for him. Catch ya' on the flip side - H

3) Hey, we have a tire pressure monitor system? I really don't know about that. Where is it?

6) Someone rear ended me too, with some 1980s car you find at junk yard. And guess what he said "Oh, my car has no damage, you are lucky".

9) It wasnt a G35C, it was the Skyline. Someone reads up the Skyline spec. There was an RSX, but it's a type R, I think it's 290 hp (not for sale in the US). S2000 is an awesome car by default, it's lighter, too. I think it's hard to do stock racing, unless you are a very good racer (when skills count more than the cars) and the RX8 GT just have too much gadgets installed.

Get a Viper. Wait, that's like 80k, get a Covertte, or even better, get a Mustang Cobra R, that's about the same price as RX8. I think that is 390hp. Beware, Car & Driver compared G35 Coupe, RX8, and Mustang Cobra, RX8 is winner, G35 is short by 1 point, and Mustang is last. But needless to say, Mustang is the best in drag race, and 1/4 race among that price. Gas mileage would be the same, if not worse for such a big engine of the V8 Mustang: 390hp @ 6000rpm, 390tq @ 3500rpm.

But hey, life isn't always straight road. RX8 can beat a Mustang any day on a mountain road, or on a track with more curves. :D

As for the gas mileage on the 8, yeah, it is not good at all. When I bought my car, I was expecting 18-24, thinking to myself that it's a sport car, it has to be that bad. But reality is I am getting 14-18. But still, between a Hummer and RX8, I would go for an RX8. What do I do with such a giant? Can't parallel park, like a bull in a china shop. Everyday you drive in fear, especially if you live in metropolitan like San Francisco, or San Diego downtown, where a Hummer fits the whole street.

You other car forums - This thread really does not exist!

Boy, talk about ranting! But, you know, he's right... NOT! He probably couldn't get that Viper & had to settle with an 8.

I agree 100% with Rx-Appreci-8. I bought mine after all of the buy-back hype and was worried about all of this stuff. I am so glad I bought the car; it is incredible. All these posts do is scare off potential owners and anger current owners.

You want some cheese with your whine? Damn...you're whining louder than a rotary is known to be.

Collect yourself man. When you are calm, write a formal letter to Mazda's head quarters with your concerns. Real concerns, not "someone rear-ended me, so you guys suck ***."

Let them know about the fuel light, the delay of your card and a certain dealership's service not being up to par. You are old enough to afford a 30+ thousand dollar car, act your age and maturely explain your situation to Mazda.

I'm not trying to be a complete dick man. I do care about your situation to a degree, but I, like 98.7% on this board do not have any leverage to help you with your situation, other than to just listen, and possibly give some advice, for better or worse.

I have 7000km on mine.... not to rub it in...

But the cars ride is fantastic. I'm not getting anyone of those problems.

About the 15sec quarter mile. Learn how to drive stick, and remember the that rx8 is not a 1/4 car. Take it on the track and let me know how it compares too 1/4 mile cars.

OK I pre-ordered this car and when I got it - it was a dream, now its sort insomnia.

1) Mazda is being totally unresponsive and not sending my $500 card. And the service at the dealership is crappy not to mention the idiots at the service department that refuse to change my oil (even though I have free maintainence) until 7500 miles. Sick and tired of Mazda's bullshit with this car.

2) Gas Mileage sucks ***

3) Tire Pressure Monitor System keeps going off at random times.

4) Crappy 1/4 Times (15 Sec. Quarter Miles - Give me a break... RSX-S does that... ridiculous)

5) When shifting into fifth sometimes the gear sounds like its hitting something even though I am shifting properly

6) Someone recently rear ended me

7) Rotary Engine is NOT all its cracked up to be. The Renesis is a horrible platform for modifcation. Also the ECU is quite stubborn due to US Emissions, is NOT putting out power that its supposed to. Disappointing dyno results also.

8) Racing is extremely limited due to the factor of the B Pillar Design and Suicide Doors - structure rigidity

9) Best Motoring - I saw it get beat by G35C, S2000, 350Z, DC5-R, and another car, only car it beat was the Miata (whoop)

10) Now I am hearing people's engines are blowing up? Great!

Sorry about the rant, but so far the RX8 seems more of a disappointment then it was when it first came out. Do any other members feel this way?
1) Even with the card, you don't get oil changes until 5000/7500, depending on which plan you're on. If you want them at 2500, be prepared to fork it over ever 2 or 3 changes.

2) I disagree, my mileage has been getting better. Last tank (220 miles) I got 18MPG, that was all commuting - no trip over 20 miles.

3) Have you checked your tire pressure for all four tires? Make sure they're all at 32 before you start driving.

4) Wouldn't know, I don't race.

5) Maybe it's hitting the reverse-stop. Does this happen with other people as well? Maybe you're doing something wierd, like accidentally pressing down a bit (so it's partially between reverse and 5th for a second). Never heard of this before.

6) That sux.

7) How much investigation have you done into the engine? ECU is annoying, that's true. But to say that the engine sucks because of the ECU is simply silly.

8) Wouldn't know, I don't race.

9) Yup.

10) Blowing up, I haven't heard anybody. Needing to be replaced, a few. Has yours? Most people haven't (there's a thread about that around here). If yours is still working OK then I guess this doesn't really apply to you, now does it?

As for a disappointment, not at all. I traded in a '98 Prelude, and I definitely traded up. The seats are more comfortable, the ride is smoother, the Engine is peppier.

Guys, I think 20 lashes was significant as efini8 has not responded (went unconscious due to the beating). He has received a lot of food for thought, let the thread die off.

Is that your car for your sig? Looks damn nice. My girlfriend and I are highly considering the appearance package when we get ours, but can't decide on whether or not we like the rear spoiler

Efini- this is not a flame- but somewhere else you had posted about your tire pressure sensor going off, and you had inflated it too high. Did you check on this? It's really sensitive, so if you don't have it right where it's supposed to be, it'll go off. It should be around 32, and you had it at something like 39. That might solve one of your problems.

Found the thread- it's here: https://www.rx8club.com/showthread.p...=tire+pressure

yes I know about tire inflation. I check it all the time. I was running 39 psi in all my tires. I take very good care of my car and check the oil level and tire psi constantly. doesnt matter anyways cuz I will be taking the stock rims off and replacing them.

I guess I was just really pissed off that day, I guess I will keep the car, but being in the automotive biz world, my reality is much different then about 99% of the people on this forum. From what I am getting, most people do not respect the car in the industry and they tell me that. Forgive my rants, I guess it was just one of those days...

So why on earth were you running the tire pressure waaaaaay above spec? It's supposed to be 32 cold, and there aren't really any benefits (as far as grip or ride are concerned) to using 39, and the downsides include running the TPMS outside it's normal values.

Gordon

OK, this is a forum for the RX-8, right? You have info that 99% of the people on this forum do not "realize"? I'm all ears (eyes?). Let's hear it.
