Cool My RX-8.. what are my possibilities

Hi guys.

I bought an RX-8 about a month ago and i can safely say that this is the best car ive EVER had.. its just soooo good to drive. Ive had a Nizzan 300ZX modified to 550 hp and the RX-8 is muuuch better, in all ways EXEPT for torqe. Its the only thing my mazda seems to lack abit.

Now my question here is how can i modify my car WITHOUT going into very expensive twin turbo kits and so on.

I dont realy care about more HP (even though its a plus) but i want more traction, specialy in the start.

Any ideas on performance parts and prices?

1. You have to be loaded.
2. You have to know what you are using the car for, track, autox, any street use.

Get a very good set of tires, up your cars rigidity and get some coilovers plus swaybars, then its tuning your suspension up to match your driving.

Yes. With buck$. RX-8 mods are, as a general rule, completely exorbitant.

At least you weren't saying "How can I put a big increase in Torque in" because about the only answer there is a rotary-to-V8 engine swap ...

i would spend money on suspension, the 8 already came with a great suspension setup, coilovers, sway bars, etc. A good set of tires as well.

From what I've read from people with the Greddy Turbo Kit, you gain quite a bit of torque, and a bit of hp as well. However it is more expensive than most mods, but for a turbo kit it is very inexpensive. I think the going rate is about $2800.00 or close.

You should search for info on that.

If you don't car about HP then you can have as much fun as you want really.

I'd advise reducing some weight-and im not talking about carb free diets

lose unsprung weight by lighter rims matched to some sticky tires.

check out the new mazdaspeed exhaust which some forum members are just getting, that is lighter than the stock by about a half (double check this).

if you've got money to blow you can drop the car, go with the lightweight flywheel etc...

thats what i want to do but im out of money.

You will only lose torque with a lightweight flywheel & exhaust. If your looking for torque take alook at pettit racing. They are offering a supercharger setup which should give you some torque.

Have you done the protection mods? That is the very first thing you should take care of. IMHO

My personal experience is that outside of the Mazdaspeed stuff parts are decently priced for the 8. It is much more expensive to modify something like a 350Z. $3k for a turbo kit is an excellent price and probably your best bet. It exists now, people have gone through the learning pains, passed the knowledge on, and having success.

Wow they doing V8S's on RX-8's unexpectedly early. I know they been doing them with RX-7's for some time now.

you should replace the stock tires, the Toyo proxes T1R looks really nice and isn't terribly expensive for the excellent reviews it's getting. however take note that altho it handles well in rain and in the dry, it's a summer tire only and won't handle snow.

Bah, wait until the stock tires get bald, and then replace them with whatever else you prefer. The Proxes are a nice choice for replacements, but there are better out there.
