My RX8 Mods
Hey guys, just thought I'd update you on the mods I've been working on. Some of you already know the mods I've made to the interior - pretty much gutted it to save weight. Took out the back seats, passenger seat, and any parts of the dashboard etc I don't need.
The first mechanical mod I made was taking out the cat last month...this past weekend we finally replaced the engine.
I'll post pics soon.

OK heres a pic of the finished product - well after putting the Chevy big-block in...had to pretty much tear everything else out from under the hood. Haven't taken it out for a test run yet, I'll let you know.

Great work noahprtlnd in florida
Don't let these naysayers and worrywarts:
get you down.
I think you're doing GREAT.
Thats for you big guy. Can't wait to see that big block in action. Are you going to hemi it? IMHO, that body BEGS do be driven by a big honkin' 8er.

It's all a lie. But since we are on the engine swap subject, I recently bought a 2004 Pimped out C230k that was rolling down a street near me for an engine swap. After stripping it down I figured it could use a lighter engine. So I went on eBay and found myself a nice 1971 1.6L air cooled Beetle engine (wanted to keep the car German). At the moment we are making a new home for the engine by cutting out the sheet metal in the trunk. We still need to raise the rear about 6 inches for the new tires. I’ll get some pictures up later. This is going to be the coolest dune buggy ever

Finally got a chance to take the RX out for a run today for the first time with the chevy big-block V8. After all, it is an RX-8 .
Guys, this car was meant to have a V8 under the hood - who doesn't love that rumble? The car runs fairly well - there's still a lot of work we have to do, and since we had to take pretty much everything out from the engine bay to fit the engine in, it doesnt have power assisted breaks, power steering, an ecu, or basically anything besides the engine in it right now. I haven't timed the 0-60 yet, but it felt FAST. Seat of the pants factor is up there. Regardless, taking the rotary out and putting in the V8 significantly upped the torque available.

Put the RX8 engine into your wife's mechanized vibrator. It's ROTARY, you know.
