My Rx8 Was Stolen

let me start off by letting you guys know how my day went.

Friday night my boys wanted to go to a party on some boat. so we decide to go. I didnt feel like putting 3 people in my rx8 so i left my car home and decided to ride in my friend's millenia. We're driving on the highway on our way to the holland tunnel. he's doing 80mph and someone cuts us off. He trys to swerve and he loses control. We hit the middle concrete head on....we had no belts on. So in the couple seconds that it happened. I said im done. Airbags saved the driver and my life...wheewww...my boy in the back wasnt as fortunate. he broke the bone in his bicep in 6 SPOTS....ouch....So im in the hospital waiting on my boy....i get home at 6am. go to sleep...wake up at 12 to go wash my car and do some errands. I go out to the back lot and MY CAR IS gone....what a sequence of events huh.....My question is...I thought these cars were hard to steal. The cop told me a professional was probably involved. He said either they towed it or someone had a master key which goes thru all the frequencies of the alarm and disarms it in which a thief can just hotwire it like a regular car. Any suggestions? Should i get another rx? dont know what to do....Now i have to take a 2 and 1/2 hr train ride to work...

sorry about your son and the rx8 , my wife had a 90 model astro van and it was 7 days old, 4 black boys stole it... police caught them that night driving the van... went to court the oldest got 6 mon. probation and a 75.00 fine ... AND THAT WAS ALL.
If they want it , there going to get it either a tow or using a pro.
remember to buckle up.

Sorry to hear your woes , a car was stolen in OZ in similar circumstances and it was driven away by the thief who somehow got a hold of a set of keys

you can tow it on a truck and not have to start the car. So no noise.

most likely it was towed *** up. cuz you have to have it in Neutral to tow from the rear wheels.

Question

Did you owe any money on it or miss a few payments?
It might have been repoed. The dealership/financing company can get copys of the keys.

Man that blows. Get another 8 this time put Lojack in it. I have it with the early warning recovery system in it.

It is very obvious for the neighbour to notice a flat back truck towing a perfectly well sports car.

I know I will

sorry about the lost.

How so? If the car moves more than 20 feet it sets off the sensor and I get called and paged within 15 to 30 minutes. I have never had it before so you might be right, but it sounds like a good thing. I have the alert going to 5 different phones/e-mails.

Because it doesn't make any economic sense. It costs ~$700+ for a LoJack install and the savings on your insurance is so low that it will take maybe a decade (or more) to break even. If someone steals my car then the deductible that I'll have to pay is less than the cost of the LoJack too.

I wouldn't say it doesn't make economic sense...because the ins company is going to reimburse you based on a depreciated amount. So if your ride does get jacked, you're out more than just a car. You might spend 30K for a car and the ins company says its worth 22K

Flat beds are the only way cars are towed here in Denver anymore. It was probably towed away, it takes about 5m, if you know what you are doing to back up to a parked car, winch it onto a flatbed and drive a couple blocks and chain it down. Sucks that is was stolen, wish you luck in recovering it.

If my 8 is stolen and not recovered or totaled Lojack pays me $2500 plus up to $2500 towards a replacemen. I also have full replacement value insurance. All and all I think it's a pretty good deal.
