We're driving on the highway on our way to the holland tunnel. he's doing 80mph and someone cuts us off. He trys to swerve and he loses control. We hit the middle concrete head on....we had no belts on. So in the couple seconds that it happened. I said im done. Airbags saved the driver and my life...wheewww...my boy in the back wasnt as fortunate. he broke the bone in his bicep in 6 SPOTS....ouch....So im in the hospital waiting on my boy....i get home at 6am. go to sleep...wake up at 12 to go wash my car and do some errands. I go out to the back lot and MY CAR IS gone....what a sequence of events huh.....My question is...I thought these cars were hard to steal. The cop told me a professional was probably involved. He said either they towed it or someone had a master key which goes thru all the frequencies of the alarm and disarms it in which a thief can just hotwire it like a regular car. Any suggestions? Should i get another rx? dont know what to do....Now i have to take a 2 and 1/2 hr train ride to work...
problem one is solved by obeying the law and wearing a seatbelt, sorry to sound cold but not wearing a seatbelt is stupid.

problem 2, that sucks. Good news is now you can get an 06 with intelligent key and voice nav :D

Your first seven words says it all.. but you'll never know unless you ask. The answer is... No.

Yes, you'd have to get GAP insurance ($300-400 or so) to have the upside down amount covered in case of a total loss.

Did you have an alarm?

My car was broken into a couple of weeks back. No damage, and nothing missing. All cd, gadgets, etc. were still there. The only thing missing was my owners manual of all things. The first thing I think of is that someone rips off the manual hoping that the car's registration and key codes are inside. Then they can have a key made, come back at a later time to rip off the car. I spoke to the Mazda dealer, apparently, they need the key tag and valid registration for a new key to be cut. Good to know.

As one who is paranoid about this sort of thing, I never leave my insurance papers, my registration, my key codes, not even old service bills in my car. I even park backwards with the back end to the wall so if they try to tow it, well, at least I won't make it easy.

Sorry to hear of your troubles.

Totally NOT true, the diff lojack made in my monthly payment was less than the diff it made in my insurance. ...So in effect it's paying for itself. Regardless of the technical merits of LoJack, it DEFINATELY made economic sense for me.

Sorry to hear about your loss.

A tow truck isn't necessarily the only alternative. This article from snopes http://www.snopes.com/crime/warnings/vin.asp describes several crime rings that have used various means to steal cars without resorting to a tow truck.
Just an FYI

My comprehensive insurance on the RX-8 is $65 / 6 months with a $100 deductible. If I got LoJack it would have saved me 20% of that which is $13 / 6 months == $26 / year. That would take me over 26 years to break even if the LoJack cost $700 (the dealer quoted $795 but assuming you could haggle the price down). If my insurance company completely removed any charge for comprehensive insurance (highly unlikely) it would still take over 5 years to pay back.

There is no way that it make financial sense for me to do so.

if you don't put the registration and insurance in the car, what happen if the police stops you and asks for those paper? I carry my insurance in my wallet, but not the registration. I think it's a good idea, just don't know how you do it?

Honestly this doesn't suprise me. If you're dumb enough to ride in a car without a seatbelt, then yeah.. this is no stretch.
