Thumbs down My stock 1/4 time...

Well I promised I would tell you guys what I could do stock in a 1/4 mile.....i got some dissapointing news.

FYi, this was my first time to ever run on dragstrip.

So I do my little burn out to get that gay water off my wheels, ofcourse I wheel hop like crazy...pull up to the line...im beside a 5th gen prelude...the lights start to drop...I launch it on the 3rd yellow...and relized...****....I didnt even raise my rpms...so I almost completely stalled out...by then the prelude was spinning and ahead of me...untill I hit my tq curve around 7k...then I finnaly started moving...and we were practically neck and neck the whole time, I pulled ahead of him in the end of 2ed and the end of 3rd....the second I crossed the line...toped out 3rd gear.

ANYWAY, I stoped racing because I ran again and I launch perfectly again, but my clutch is weak, it would NOT go into 2ed gear....I was just like...****.

I tryed taking a pic of my timeslip but my camera is dead.

but anyway, heres my timeslip for my first dragstrip run ever.

R/T ... .048
60' ... 2.967
330 ... 7.481
1/8 ... 11.008 (70.17 mph)
1000 ... 14.012
1/4 ... 16.518 (90.36 mph)

soooo.....if it wasnt for that nearly stalling part...I'm sure I could have broke 14.5...cause I lost a good 2secs from that horrible start...I mean, I traped at 90 mph in 3rd gear...

but thats the news...

I have drag raced on and off for a few years with a few different cars and in my experience bad take offs kill your times regaurdless or missing a gear and grinding it.. I use to Drag race a 99 Eclipse RS (NA) If I took off at a lower rpm per say 2500 it would wheel hop and I would run roughly a 10.92 at worst if I had a smooth launch around 3300 rpm I would run around a 10.5 - 10.65 the car was consistly staying between 10.5s and 10.65s so my shift points were pretty steady and its always the 2nd shift that determines the race in my experience (thats if you did not cut a bad light.)

I Just bought my 2004 RX-8 2 days ago I have not had time to run it down the track.. But Im expecting it to actually run 10.2s on the eight mile. Out of curiousity what were you launching your car at RPM wise? Theres a huge difference in the rx8 Im not sure what alot of people recommend launching it at but Ive been playing around 4,000 RPM. Theres not much wheel hop (thats if you know how to let out on the clutch and if your rpms do not go up and down). The reason Im expecting it to run that is Ive lined up agaisnt the Eclipse I have been racing this season and the other driver of the car runs the same times I do and I leave him sitting like a deer in headlights.

What would you guys recommend RPM Wise to take off at ?

Remember its a high revving motor gotta keep those rpms up every shift if you dont then its pointless to even attempt to race this type of car.

Makes little sense to me why you would risk breaking a lot of parts in the 8 for a time slip.

It doesn't matter if you think you can achieve a 14.5, get over the fact that your car is slow. We have no torque, why even bother going to a drag strip and seriously racing? I went knowing that I would run a slow time. I guarantee though, the 8 will out handle every car that was at the drag strip that day.

You can do 14.5ish in a totally stock MT 8 but you'll need more practice, not to mention wear and tear on your clutch and tires.

Ummm... is this a 1/8mile time cuz I had a TSI AWD that was quite a bit less than stock and I ran high 11s and low 12s at the 1/4. I find it hard to believe that a NA RS FWD that comes with like 150hp and maybe 130 to the wheels can hit 10's. Sorry not buying that. Not withought some serious mods and lots and lots of nitro...like 400shot cuz ur gonna need atleast 400whp to hit sum decent numbers like that. My buddy's Cobra SVT has atleast 450-500 whp and granted he was having trouble hooking in at the launch but he was still getting 11s. Dont mean any disrespect at all just sayin....

I ran my 8 stock and hit 14.8. I launched at 4500. I went Turbo and hit 13.98. My first couple times though I hit 15s though but I was trying to learn the launch. I actually went around the puddle cuz I had street radials on so there was really no need to warm them up. Thats how I was able to hit finally into the 13s. When I went into the puddle and burned out I actually went sideways on 2 of the runs so needless to say I'm sure that affected my time quite a bit. I found that launching at 5k and easing out the clutch from 1st to 2nd kept me from breaking loose at the start of the 4k boost band. I havent tracked the car in a while but I'm confident that I can get into the low to mid 13s pretty well. All I have near me now is an 1/8mile track and I dont think I can really hit my peak power band there. But I will give it a shot and post later.

But you didn't.

Instead of saying you can do it, come back when you ACTUALLY do it.

no disrespect man but you have no idea how much time that cost you and how difficult it is to run a 14.5 in a stock 8 ....

Sorry Failed to mention it was in the 1/8th mile track.. There are 2 tracks close to me both 1/8th miles.. They had to reduce the length due to budget cuts at both.. Which sucks...

no disrespect to you, but if you wanted a drag car, get one with some torque, or a turbo...

you arent gonna have a fun time at the drag strips with a n/a renesis....
try a track and see waht happens.
