My theory on new flash fuel economy
Some people have reported better fuel economy after the recall flash. Others have gotten less. I am one of the less. I lost about 1.5-2 mpg on the flash.
However, I changed my driving style and seem to have gotten it back. When I first got the car I experimented around to see what I could do on my commute to get ok gas milage while not having to accelerate like an old lady. I was shifting a 3500-4500 rpm and using a lot of throttle. This seemed to work fine and I was getting about 21.
The flash killed that down to 17. My commute is all backroads and highway except for about 5 traffic lights near work.
On my last two tanks I switched my driving style. I now use lighter throttle for normal acceleration but shift at higher RPM. This gives me the same acceleration rate for commuting, but I got 20 on my last two tanks, and I am now on winter gas.
It looks like Mazda must have re-mapped the part throttle fuel map pretty substantially.
Anybody else try this?

Before the recall I got around 20mpg, average. I now get around 20.7684 mpg, average. Thats at about little to no throttle to foot through the floorboard, wind in my face, 70.6% humidity, somewhat rough to smooth pavement.

Lower mileage has nothing to do with the flash. They're diluting the gasoline.
You know how they reduced gas prices before the election? And we were all expecting the prices to go back up the next day? Well, the Republicans may have blown this campaign, but they're not stupid. So instead of raising gas prices back up to where they were, they're just diluting the stuff and making it up in volume.

Now if you were the head of an oil company who owned the Republican party, wouldn't you have dropped your prices before the election? Don't know about you, but I sure would have.

Have you ever notices how expensive gas, insurance and pharmaceutical drugs are? Oh, wait, they are the ones that run this country. Coincidence? hmmmm back to the gas mileage...I got 240 miles on my first tank and 200 on my next! Tell me this isn't a trend!!!
