thank you for changing the title
the crash itself was pretty bad
what happened was
i was taking a corner in a backroad this morning
a little bit too hard i guess for town
i was maybe going 40 on a 90 degree turn
on a dry or what i thought dry road
halfway through the turn i saw a puddle which made my tires lose traction
i started to drift and countersteered but too much
and it whipped the other way
i counter-ed again and it whipped again the way i was coming from
because of the constant weight transfer, the car lost control
and spun out which made me hit a pole on the other side of the road
of course this is my fault for turning dsc off this morning
and also of my poor driving skills
all this couldve been prevented had i learned how to handle a car better
lessons learned
1) learn how to drive
2) dont be stupid
what im also trying to take away from this
is a DIY fix or as much as i can
the damage is pretty bad
the passenger side side curtain and seat air bags went off
and the door and windshield will have to be replaced
and whatever that part is if possible will be replaced
if not bent back
ill try to get pictures off the car asap
before i bought the car i read bad reviews from the safety section
however, im happy to say im alright
on a positive note, if the DIY fix does work,
im gonna have some extra cash to invest in the car
we'll see how much i save from doing the labor myself
*sorry for the long post*

Power!!
You should make the claim and see what the insurance company says when they have it assessed. Most likely if you've bent the frame the car is totaled. Airbags and doors can be replaced and even the body panel but if the frame is bent you really are better off getting another car as it will not be able to take another hit on that side safely.
Chalk it up to a learning experience on why you don't turn off DSC on the street etc.
best of luck and hope the insurance company takes care of you. At least you are okay and that is what's most important.

Chances are the car is totaled. The insurance company decides that, not you. and no you cannot just "cut and weld" the frame back into shape.
I feel the need to tell you that this wasn't an accident. This was a crash. You were doing 40mph around a tight corner, in the winter, when you were unsure of the road conditions, with your stability control turned off. This kind of decision making is unwise, even for someone with a lot of driving experience, and you have gone so far to admit that you are not an experienced driver. I'm going to go out on a limb and say this may even be your first car.
You may not like it. You may think I'm mean for saying it, but you played with fire and got burned. Be glad you lived, and remember not to mention to the insurance company that you were speeding on a wet road and had disabled your stability control just before the crash. If they find out what really happened, they are well within their rights to not cover you at all.

the thread where all these idiots were arguing that they should turn the DSC off for daily driving comes to mind. Not pressing that button probably woulda saved your car.

You didn't crash because the car was rear wheel drive.
You crashed for several reasons like:
You didn't look ahead
You turned off a traction control device made specifically when **** takes you by surprise
You were speeding
You ignored environmental conditions
You are very inexperienced and do not know how to recover a car properly
A little advice. STI's and Evo's are just as easy to spin as an RX-8 and in my opinion just as hard, if not harder, to recover.
