Well I have made a trip from North PA to FL and Back....car packed full (moving) about 1400 miles each way...FL to NC about 600 MI.....back to pa from NC and back about 1200 miles round trip.....

no problems fun car to drive on trip bring lots of tunes and some extra oil....(check all fluids of course etc etc.) the only bad thing is the 22MPG...which I don't mind but some will complain.....I'm not sure the mileage of your trip but I'm sure u will be fine

but if you think it's a bad idea then just leave the 8 at home....personally I woudn't hesistate

lots of us don't recommend 5w20 and use AT LEAST 5w30.....just use whatever you've been using during oil changes.....

^well in my and MANY other on here opinion 5w20 is WAY too thin (especially when all other areas of the world's rx8's recommend 5w30)

I took a "mini road trip" this past weekend and I for one think the 8 is a great road trip car for one or two people.
This dude in a late 80's Benz kept trying to run with me.
Not racing but while we're in Atlanta he got in front of me and he was happy.
We get about 20 miles outside of the city and I pass him [again not racing but running about 70] and the guy just has to pass me again.... so I did what I had to do.

I digress..
I'm no fan of 5-20 but there are many people on here who've used it and never had any troubles...

How many friends? And how big?

Couple of years ago I took a road trip from Northern Virginia to Charlotte, NC, about 400 miles each way, with one friend. I'm 6 feet, 235#. He's 6'3", 280#. We were fine. The car was great.

One more person, of any size, would not have worked.

Yep....

It's sad but a lot of people think that the 8 and the RX-7 for that matter are nothing but trouble cars that need to go to the shop every few thousand miles and they need new engines every 50k or so.

Drive the car, thats what it is made for..

Sound like my friend and his Goat.... he won't drive the thing because it's so precious. that crap annoys the hell out of me.

If you are going to own a car, use it.

I did a 16 day road trip with about 6500 miles driven. Not even a hint of trouble. The 8 is a great roadtrip car.

ahhhhhhhhh Roadtrips in my RX-8 has got to be the most fun i've had in my life! haha

I live in Evansville, which is at the south west end of Indiana, by Kentuky and Illinois and my family lives in Montreal/Quebec City, Canada. So on my vacations I've taken my RX-8 on that trip twice so far to go see my family, 22 hours of driving non stop(meaning no sleeping anywhere) just to get there and everyone is telling me that im crazy and that i should fly instead. Everytime my answer is "hell no!, driving my RX-8 for 22 hours x2 is gonna be the most fun i'll have on my vacation". I also drove it from here to Wildwood NJ which was 13 hour drive to get there and never got any problems so far. And I wont lie, I havent driven it too gently, ive taken it up to 120mph on I-64 a few times (gd that interstate is fun in West Virginia, all them curves and hills.)

Btw ive got an 04 automatic and its still a ton of fun to drive, even after driving 22 hours straight to go to Canada, when i got there i was ready to get back in the car and drive some more so much i had fun. Course my car got its engine replaced when i first got it, at 28k miles and now im at 45k miles ( a year later) and its running great. I made sure to update the computer and I check oil at every fill up or 2 and drove it like i stole it, so far no problem with the engine.
