need answer before race time
One quick question, I have a friend of mine who has a 91' sentra ser with a japanese neo vll engine in it, no turbo, just straight engine, he is hounding me for a race for $500, from what I think my 05' rx8 6Mt shouldn't have a problem leaving him in awe, I just want to make sure that I got this thing in the bag before digging myself into debt. Anyone out there familiar with the late ser's?

Unless he's a really good driver and you suck, you should win. According to R&T, a stock '91 Sentra SE-R will do the 1/4 mi in 16.2 secs. R&T got 14.5 secs for the RX-8, but most newbie drag racers only seem able to get low 15s. However, if his car is modded, who knows, he could beat you.
Street racing stories are not allowed on this forum. So unless you race on a track, don't bother posting the results. And if you do LOSE and SHAME our car, I don't want to hear about it either.

The altima is about 2400 lbs.
Assume the rx8 makes about 230 hp (optimistically) and weighs 3000 lbs:
13lb/hp on the rx8
12lb/hp on the sentra.
Sounds like you would lose.

Your friend reminds me of this dumbarse co-worker at my old job. He had a turbo'ed early 90's supra. I drive a stock civic and it happens to be lowered. He drives up next to me and asks torace and the loser pays 500 to the winner. He's an idiot to think I would take him on. A week later he crashed his car racing my supervisor at the time. My supervisor slowed down cuz he was exiting and thats what you're suppose to do. The idiot keeps speeding up. And totals his car.
Later he buys off a freaken late 80's and early 90's corolla and boasts about beating M3's and such. Eventually one of the delivery drivers put him in his place by saying he drives a POS car. The funny thing is he wanted to put on some $5k rims. Oh ya he was proud of having putting a large tac on the side.
I'm not saying your friend is a dumbarse. But a friend has no need to bet $500 to prove he has a faster car. Here is the specifications for the sentra se-r 91-94.
Horse Power: 140 @ 6400rpm
Torque: 132 lb/ft @ 4800rpm
RPM limited at 7500rpm (200SX SE-R is limited to 7100rpm)
Displacement: 1998cc
Compression: 9.5:1
0-60mph: approx. 7.6 to 8.3 seconds (R&T,MT,C&D)
1/4mile: approx. 15.8 seconds (R&T,MT,C&D)
Weight distribution: 62/38
Brakes: 9.8" vented disks front 9.1" solid disks rear
But if you're gonna race. do it on the tracks. Don't want to see another 8 thrashed on local roads.

We are going for it at englishtown, but we upped it to 1000, we will determine it this saturday with the best 1/4 mile time. I've seen his engine, and everything he's put on it......... Basically a jap import 94' neo vvl engine with aem cold air intake, greddy header and exhaust, alsoi a jim wolf racing chip, on my side I'm running stock everything, any suggestions on when to drop the hammer (rpms)

i agree.. sentra is not a slow car...
only a few people recognized that it isn't an se-r engine...
i have an sentra se-r with the sr20de engine in it... and it goes pretty quick stock... and its already got 127k miles on it...
i don't know how the neo vii engine is.. but i guess u better find out...
chipped and intake header exhaust... even the sr20de engine would kick the crap outta the rx8...
did he strip out the interior? wheels?
even if rx8 has more power than his tuned sentra... it takes so long to get into the powerband.. that rx8 will probably lose...
i'm sorry man... rx8 just isn't a drag racer.. should have gotten a mustang

You better post the timeslips from this little race. And, a pic of you handing over 1000 dollars. Only because I find it so hard to believe that you would up the bet after so many said you would loose is, well, stupid.
You could have used that 1k for mods man, MODS!!! now you're going to waste it on a car not even worth 1000 dollars.

i hope you are skilled... for some reason most people are naive enough to think them of them selves as good performance drivers. (I know my place, and i dont challenge anyone :p) anywho, the RX8 dosnt get to the sweet part of its powerband until a fairly high RPM, so if you want to stand a chance against him, who according to those mods definetly has better power to weight ratio. youd have to outskill him, youd have to know how to do a proper launch. if you dont do a clutch drop, youre probably in trouble. IMO RX8 is a harder car to drive than the sentra ser in the straightline race.
1 its not easy and takes tons of practice, 2 its not good for your clutch. I hope youre the better driver, cause that often matters more than the car it self. especially if both of you guys are amature drivers.
good luck, youll need it.

If this is your RX8, then you have nothing to worry about... but realistically you will be handing over $1k

If this is your first time racing let alone doing a clutch drop on the 8 there is a good chance that:
DSC/TCS on:
You get too frisky and spin the tires on the start. Engine bogs for a second or two. You lose.
DSC/TCS off:
You get too frisky and spin the tires and just sit there, *** hopping all around. You lose.
Realistically, the Altima is much easier to drive in a drag race.
Of course part of it is the track condition and the condition of your/his tires.
Seriously though, give me the thousand... we'll go out back, I'll kick you in the nuts and we'll call it a day

And youre an idiot for accepting, with a bone stock 8 against a pretty quick car already, let alone mods.
Hand him your money, your *****, and get a clue.
Dont bother posting the results, theyre already clear.

Wow u guys really have some faith in ur car huh? I just love how u guys buy a 30k car and just dismiss it against a POS rice burner, especially when the guys car brakes down every other week, I'm not saying I'm a super driver, but I'm not a young punk either, I respect the 8 for what it is, a perfectly balanced machine, but I'm also not gonna sit back and have someone offer me a $1k for basically nothing. I wouldn't jump into a race unless I felt for sure I had a chance, have faith in the rex!

People don't place bets that they think they'll lose. If your friend wants to bet 500 bucks that his car is faster, don't race him. I know I wouldn't. It would be pretty easy to setup a sleeper car that utterly obliterates anything in your path, and have it look completely stock, even when glancing in the engine bay.
