Need Help and Advice on NAV and dealer!

So, I just bought my car this week and it turns out I have the old Nav OS (not talking about the map disk). So I took my car to the dealer and asked to have it updated. He said, "No, we don't do updates under warranty." So I came back to the board and researched what didn't work on the old OS. It's been posted in many threads that you can't turn off the voice in the old OS. Back to the dealer to tell him my nav doesn't work correctly and he can verify the problem and I'd like it fixed. He tells me, that he knows there are two versions of the OS and was aware of the problem I was having, but they still wouldn't upgrade my system and Mazdas official response to my problem was to put the volume on 0. So I called the Mazda 1-800 number, he tells me that there was no way to update my old system, because the vendor has "run out" of the updates, and I should set my volume to 0. WHAT IS WRONG WIHT THESE PEOPLE, WHY WON'T THEY REPLACE MY DEFECTAVE SYSTEM!! I realize that someone on the board can update my system if I pay them, I don't want to pay to have a defect fixed on a car I JUST BOUGHT nor do I want to go into a back door menu and erase everything then take it to the dealer and play dumb. Any help or advice would be appreciated!
Joe

They are supposed to release an update for the NAV system by October.

an older nav os is not a defect. hence it is not under warrenty. your nav os is performing the way it was designed to perform.

To me, putting the volume on zero is the same as turning the voice off.

Same effect, why stress? Works great for me.

Guys, how can you say it's not defectave. Page 34 of my owners manual says "Select Voice Feedback off for no vocal guidance" When I make that selection I still hear a voice, isn't that a defect?

But I also undersand your point about not stressing over it. I guess it's just when you pay 2k for nav, drive your car off the lot, go to turn off the voice because it's annoying you and it doesn't work you feel like the dealer should fix that for you. Guess I expect too much for customer service.

Thanks,
Joe

Maybe the owner's manual is defective. It should read "to turn the voice function off, turn the volume to zero." Would that make you happier?

I just bought my car 2 months ago, it had a build date of 09/03 and the old nav system.
Had I not found this message board I would not have known that there is an update to the system software.

But.. I feel that they should have updated the software before I bought the car to bring up to the current version. Software upgrades should be covered under warranty, not mapping data. What if Microsoft started charging you for service packs or patches, this is an onboard computer system and I am sure there are other bugs in the software then just the voice defeat.

On the other hand I do not know what contract Mazda has with Navteq, maybe they have to pay for each install/update. Since the car is only days old I do not think it would be unreasonable for them to cover the cost. Now if you came in a year from now and wanted the update that would be different. Its all about customer satisifaction -
