Need help ASAP!!! RP short shifter problem!

I did the install today and everything went smoothly...i took the car for a test drive and the first time shifting through the gears with the new shifter it made a bit of a noise which just seemed to be the shifter adjusting itself.

I drove around for about an hr and then went to a movie..i came out of the movie and there was a huge puddle of some sort of oily substance, not sure what...so i took everything apart and double checked it and all seemed fine, even the shifter seems fine, its definatley coming from my car and i'm fearing its tranny fluid.

is there anything i could have done wrong???? the install went like clockwork (thanks to the gomez diy)

help me!!!!!

****************UPDATE**************************** *

Ok now things just got a whole lot worse..i took everything apart to check and see if maybe something had come loose, everything appeared to be normal so while putting it back together I was bolting the plate that holds the shifter in place and I snapped one of 3 bolts off, so its stuck halfway in there..now when im shifting theres this awful winding sound, like if anyones been rolling up to a stop go situation, push clutch in, put in first that sound it makes, like something winding up?? it sounds like that but 1000x louder, doesn't sound good at all. The shifter still works fine though, but i'm pretty concerned something is majorly wrong here...

Any other evidence the leak was yours...obviously, if it's yours you would need to inspect the source/location of the leak.

It's definatley mine..i just don't understand what could be leaking. All I did was remove the shifter housing, which consists of a few pieces of rubber and 7 bolts, pulled the old one out, put the RP shifter in, bloted the 3 blots and the plate on, tested to make sure it was in place and that was it. How could something be leaking? I think i'm gonna go take it all apart and check it again. Funny thing is the shifter still feels fine, no strange noises or anything..not even a cel

I haven't done this job myself but just trying to use a little logical reasoning to help dx the problem. Where exactly are you finding the leak?

BTW how does the RP shifter feel compared to stock? The stocker is already one of the best in market I believe.

It feels incredible...everyone told me it was mind blowing...but you really have to experience it. It's like a bolt action rifle.

broken bolt has been done before... easy out is your friend...

the leak you need to find out where it is coming from... if you had no parts left over after the reinstall it is unlikely the shifter...

a cel.... why do you think a cel would come on after changing a shifter????

This leak has nothing to do with the shifter change. Smell the oil. Gearbox oil smells nothing like the familiar engine oil smell.....

I have to agree with our Aussie friend here... the shifter should not (and pretty much cannot) cause a leak like the one you are experiencing.

What color is the oil? What does it smell like? You SURE there wasn't a leak before? (even a small one?) Grab the jack out of your trunk and go looking for that leak as quickly as you can.

BTW Senna: I was a bit skeptical as to "how good" the RP shifter could really be. Every report I read on the RX-8 praised how good the shifting was already. I had mine installed the RP himself and all I can say is I will never doubt that man again. Truly an amazing product.

it seems to be making alot of noise now....i know others have reported it being noisy but this doesn't sound right.

the tranny makes alot of noise just spinning in neutral, but where the real problem lies is when shifting gears, while pushing through the shift gate there's alot of whining, like as if the synchros are spinning too fast or something.

best way i can describe it is if you've ever been coming to a stop sign/light at speed, pushed in clutch then put in first gear preparing to quickly stop and go you hear that noise that sounds like something spinning quickly and then the gear shifts into place...if i try that with the short shifter it sounds like its winding up but more like its going to explode.

oh sorry to hear about the troubles, best thing I would do is, take the RP shifter off, and put the stock shifter back in and bring it into a GOOD dealer that will actualy fix it... good luck! wish I could help, but I'm not too familar with this stuff so...

Nothing is going to explode.

You need to carry out all the noise reduction tips that have been posted here. Search my posts on the issue, littlejohn's posts....you will be able to reduce the noise level markedly.

Upon further inspection i'm starting to doubt the leak was mine, there hasn't been a single drop anywhere else other than that parking lot, so I'm assuming since this was one of my first performance mods I was already nervous something catastrophic would happen upon starting the engine for the first time that when I saw liquid on the ground I immediatley panicked and assumed it was from my car.

I'm sure that if all my tranny fluid leaked out I would notice, the car feels as smoothe as ever, and the shifter is 1000x better than expected, just noisy...if it's supposed to be noisy than I can live with that.
