In need of help of buying the Rx-8!!
Hey I need some help buying the rx-8 again. It's pretty important so bare with me. Anyway while I was searching around to buy a 2004-2005 RX-8 I came accross one that said it was a 2004 RX-8 with 36k km. It's pretty low cost too.
But here's the deal, this GT version came from the US and brought here to Quebec. Also the guy who owns the car says it's VGA or salvaged because the guy before him crashed it in the US. But he said that it was the left side of the car and on CARFAX it says that no airbags were even deployed and the chassis or structure of the car wasnt even touched.
He is the 3rd owner of the vehicle, the first ones were the dealer and the second guy owned from 2004- march of 2006. He was the one who crashed the car only 2 weeks after the recall and the touch up and clean up from mazda. The 3rd owner owns the car from march of 06 till now and still debating whether to buy it.
I also drove the car and it came fully equipped with black paint (i forgot the colour) and the Triangle skirt kit thing. It didn't come with autoclimate control though. The car runs great and really does pull even if i only went to 6k rpm because of the crappy weather over here. It felt like if I revved to 9k and went to second it wouldve burned some rubber pretty damn well. Handling I thought was outstanding from this car and has quite a bit of space in the back, but the trunk is a bit small compared to my 98civic. But it seemed that it was idling slightly rough and the gear **** was slightly vibrating.
But... he said that the warranty is now void and gone, does that include the Rotary warranty for 160k or 8 years? Basically is a salvaged/rebuilt RX-8 have the warranty completely gone? Also I'm a bit shaky to buy it because of that the warranty is void, but if I get him to go under $10,000 is it worth buying? Last Question but is the rotary warranty go with the powertrain warranty for 160k/8years or just the Engine? Anyway any advice is greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Shazy
Oh here is the website of the car if you want to see it. http://montreal.kijiji.ca/c-cars-veh...QAdIdZ82614169

I don't see any reason why the engine would not still have the 100k 8yr warranty, but having said that, I'd still avoid this car. I just wouldn't feel comfortable knowing it was in an accident.

Ugh 3 owners already? Stay awayyy from this car. There are alot more fish in the sea. Buy from someone who is enthusiastic about cars and their care and you can get a used one that is pretty much like new.
Nevermind that its salvaged... buy one that has never been wrecked.

I bought my 8 as a salvage / accidented. I paid about 45% of the retail cost of a brand new 8 for a 1 year old car with 8,000KM (5,000mi) on it.
To date I've had zero problems with it, it's been 2 years and I have it up to 24,xxxKM. I've had more problems with my brand new Sunfire (now the winter car) in 3 years than I've had with my salvaged 8.
Lesson is, get it checked out. Where in Quebec are you? If you're in Gatineau I can come and check it out with you.
edit:
Just noticed the ad is for Montreal. I wouldn't buy it at that price, but if you can get it for 10K then I say do it as long as it passes a mechanical. Also look at these: http://www.canadatrader.com/result/r...se&amvoq=false
There are 2 2005 GTs for the same price. With warranty.

If the frame or other major components of the car weren't damaged, the insurance company could have certified that information, in which case the title would have been "clear," even if it was in a collision. I know this because I owned a previous car where this occurred. The fact that it's a salvage title is extremely suspicious. I would keep away from this car, even though you may have already dreamed about being behind the wheel. There are a ton of other 8's out there. If you do choose to roll the dice (not recommended at all), you should be able to buy this car for DIRT cheap. A salvaged title makes the car only worth about 33% of what it should be, IMO. You will have a bitch of a time trying to re-sell this car when you decide you're done with it.
