Need Peoples Opinions! (A.S.A.P.)!!!!!!!!

Alright heres the deal...

Driving down the NYS Thruway the other day I realize I have a flat rear passenger tire, bottom line is, I bring it to the shop (this point its sears auto center) the guy tells me I am goin to need two new back tires, but he cant get them for at least a week...So I wound up bringing my car to Middletown Mazda....Soo does anyone know how much two rear tires are goin to cost me??...As well, since my car is in the shop, is there up-to-date flashes or TSBs that I should know about?.. .The latest one I have is the M Flash...

Thanks guys.

How many miles on the tires ? You may be able to get just the one you need. I believe they run about $240 each...

Any idea about any TSBs?...Or more recent flashes then the M?

I wish I could, however, I dont have the $$ to be shelling out almost 1000 dollars for four new tires at the moment...Somewhere near 500 I could deal with.

Price out a new fender and bodywork vs. 4 tires. If you're tires are that bad, replace 'em!

Look on Ebay for people selling their tires/rims... maybe they'll break the set for you.

How is it that 750-1000 for tires is expensive for a car that you bought that costs at the very least 23k-30k?

I don't know about you but $250 per tire is DANG expensive to me I think. I came from a car where I got tires for $85 each so that number is SHOCKING!!!

But, where are you guys shopping at? I've seen them for $150+...go to tirerack.com...check it out...also, discount tire...

Well--if you have the bridgestones--I'd go ahead and replace the rears with a tires that will last alot longer; when you have the extra paper go ahead and replace the fronts. The bridgestones don't last worth a damn.

Check out the Parts For Sale forum section right here - people have sold their used OEM tires when they switch to bigger wheels, etc. You can probably pick up a slightly used set of 4 tires for $400 or $500. Use the two you need, resell the other 2 for $100 each... share the love! (Or just buy the two you need if someone is selling them individually, for ~$200). Get the same OEM tires (don't put the Dunlops on 2 wheels if you have the Bridgestone, or vice versa)

I had a flat in May, bought 1 used RE040 from a forum member who'd bought 4 used RE040 because he had a flat. It works, and is far less expensive than buying new!

PS - Do NOT mix and match tires on a car, especially a sports car like an RX-8. Putting a different brand or model tire on the rears than on the fronts is a recipe for disaster.

Regards,
Gordon

I should have stressed that if he goes that route he should replace the fronts as quickly as possible. You have to do what you have to do when it comes to the wallet. I ordered a set of 4 Nittos when I needed to replace my rears--but of course 3 came in and they installed the 3 on the car even though I told them only to install 2 to minimize the ill effect until the 4th came in The 4th came in the next day and they put it on; thankfully too-because the single Bridgstone went flat that day.

FYI also, you can get the Pirelli PZero Nero M+S tires for about $155 each from the Tirerack, so for less than $700 mounted and balanced you'd have 4 brand new tires. And these are Ultra High Performance All seasons, so if you don't need that capability you can probably find good tires that cost even less. Lots of info on the Neros here.
