Need some opinions on the RX8

im planning on buying a RX8, someime around spring of '08, but have been hearing alot of stuff about the car so i wanted to get some opinions of other owners and some advice about the rx8...For example, i kno the whole story about the recall, and jus wanna kno wut year were those rx8's recalled in and is it neccessary to change the engine once i get it? Also i heard that there's some problems with RX8's in the winter time...i don't know it its true or not but something about the battery and starter doesn 't do to well in the snow and brakes tend to give out from time to time. I mean don't get me wrong I love the car and wanted to get one myself since the first time i saw it, but before i purchase one, i just wanna know all the good and bad things about the car. better to be safe than sorry

Engine recalls were essentially 04-05 models and you only need a new engine if the engine fails the tests involved with the recall, otherwise you simply get a software upgrade, possibly spark plugs and/or a cat. I believe the weak starter and battery only effected the 04s. As has been stated, read around these here forums. There is plenty of general info on the car accessible by reading the sticky threads and searching.

I always have to use the advanced search, and generally limit searches to title only to get what I'm looking for.

I tend to get better results using Google to search this site
https://www.rx8club.com/rx-8-discussion-3/link-use-google-search-rx8club-com-more-124367/.
The OP should spend some time doing so, many of your preconceptions about the 8 are wrong. I made THIS THREAD 8,000 miles ago, you might find it interesting.

Yeah, that's pretty much it.

So how did you compile that list, without encountering any of the discussion about whether it's accurate or not? And pack it all into your first post?

I'm very disappointed to see something so heavy handed. There was a time when people were much more subtle with this kind of post.

I'm three years in, three winters (my fourth one starting now) three summers, 40,000 miles, etc.

NO problems to speak of that were of any consequence except my airbag wiring which was covered under warranty.

I spend about a half hour a week puttering around it doing little maintenance stuff - check the tires, wash the windows, wipe the seats with a Lexol wipe, vaccuum it, check the oil, wash it. Keeps it shiny and happy, and me smiliing and happy.

Gas mileage blows, but you knew that. If you were at all serious about your "carbon footprint" you'd not consider this car and instead would be posting in the Prius forum.

Go for it - no regrets at all - it's a fantastic car. Look around for "Stew's Twin Top 10 lists" - lots of ideas there.
