Question need some quick help on bulbs!

hey all

I'm writing this on my phone so it may look a bit sloppy but I need to figure out how many lumens the stock rx8 lights (standard low beams) give off. I don't have h.I.d.'s. I tried to find info on this but came up short. I'm a CA resident.

I'd check this myself right now however I'm out of town and there's a nice deal on Sylvania starbright H7 bulbs that I might pick up while I'm out.

Speedy responses are greatly appreciated!

Click on this and read up. I think it might be posted in that thread somewhere.

Hope that helps!

Thanks for the help Dom!

Anyway, so I found out that the stock non-HID bulbs run at just under 1600 lumens (how bright the bulb is). I wasn't sure how bright the Starbright H7's would be in comparison and decided to wait a day and do so more research.

Now, a friend of mine pointed out that I should swap to H.I.D.s, namely to this kit under the name Lumenux. It apparently is a full HID kit that I've found for $129.00. This makes me a bit leary because it's so much cheaper compared to what I expected. Anyone have any advice on this? Or how Lumenux kits compare to others?

I should note that I would probably use 6000k or 7000k bulbs with this. It seems the higher (and bluer) you go, the darker the light...

Thanks again,
- Matt

PS. - The 6000k and 8000k kits they sell claim to give off 2800 lumens. I find this a bit odd as well but I guess it could work. I never gave much thought to changing the blubs on my car in the 3 or so years of ownership. Any guidance here is much appreciated!

thats because the human eye responds best to yellow light. so the higher temp you go, the harder it is for the human eye to see and the easier for a bumblebee to see. afaik. bumblebees see in uv, and uv is around 13000K, again, afaik.

ever wonder why rally racers use painted yellow lights?

This definitely helps me understand why the bluer = darker. However I am still curious about the quality of these Lumenux kits.

Here's an Ebay link

By the way, thank you kersh4w, for your help!
