need sum help: car is running like crap

hey guys, i was wondering if you could help me out i have a 2004 A/t and lately it hasn't been running good. I will try to accelerate and at first it will hesitate then a few seconds later start to go really slowly then all of the sudden lurch forward. Then when i take my foot off the gas it feels like some one put the brake on and it kind of slows its self down. Dose anyone know what is going on? i just had some work done on it and when the moved my car at the shop the flooded the engine and it has been like this since, is it sludged up or maybe something wrong with the spark plugs? any ideas

thanks

what about the fuel filter? I dont have an 8 yet...but sounds like what my truck used to do. A quick fuel filter changed solved that.

Anyone else think the auto tranny is the problem, not the engine?

Hesitation then lurching sounds like a delayed downshift.
Throttle-off feeling like braking sounds like the tranny is still engaged to the engine fully. Full-time auto drivers may find compression braking to feel strange.

ya the tranny has in the past had problems but i really didnt associate it with what is happening now because of the recent flooding i thought it had to be the engine

i have an 04 auto 8 and the same thing happens to me. It happens probably only once every 2 weeks and i thought that it was just my fault for not letting the car warm up properly. What i do to fix it is i go park somewhere, rev the engine to about 3k rpm about 3 times then shut it down, wait about 3mins or so then start it up again and just keep it up 4rpm untill it is warmed. Seems to work for me but i will be takin it to the dealer once i get time to see if any of the problems that other people suggested is it, If you take yours to the dealership before and find out what it is please let me know. thanks
