need your help.

so ive been thinking about turboing my 8....ive been trying to convince my dad thatd itd be fine and stuff like that..

so today my dad met this turbo "specialist" and this guy said it would be really hard to turbo the rx-8, its not reliable, it would blow the engine, and it would cost around 10 grand.

is this guy right? because i see alot of 8's turboed and i dont think people would turbo if its gona blow up there car lol. does anyone else have any hard facts that might help me out in this disscusion. please help.

sigh....such idiots out there...

Yeah, reliability factor, thats gonna shortin the life of the motor even on low boost, but it wont blow any time soon I would imagine...a badass turbo kit is 8k tops...

so you're looking around 3-8k for a turbo kit.

Well, it being a N/A car, dumping more air in is going to wear the motor out faster, even if its 0.5lbs more going in. Alot of people out there like to run the **** out of their cars thinking their in god mode.

As long as you run a good low boost setting to get some extra numbers out of it, and baby it like you should and only get on it when you feel the need. You'll be straight. Get a good tune, because if your not dumping enough fuel in to make up for that extra air...kaboom.

I wouldnt let it scare you though.

Very few engines retain reliability when you add force inductions. The Renesis is no different. It is especially fickle because most auto shops are not familiar with rotary engines, and do not know what to do when adding force induction to the RX-8.

That's where the problems lie.

You dont want to baby the car. Don't drive like a jackass and don't boost 100% of the time but by no means do you want to baby the engine. You start that and you will have problems.
Here what the OP needs to know plain and simple. Good tune + good supporting mods and you will be fine. Make sure you have a healthy engine prior to going FI. Your air to fuel ratio needs to be proper and make sure you have a person who knows what they are doing in regards to tuning the rotary.
No matter what make sure you research and learn about FI applications and the rotary before putting any kinf of forced induction on this car. If you fail to do the above you will be sorry.

Aren't you still potentially going to have backpressure "problems" due to the renesis's exhaust ports? It's one of the reasons I'm going to head to S/C..

Ah yes - the good ole Pettit theory . While Pettit have more knowledge on this than most . They came up with that when racing turbo 8s and I can see in a racing application trhey may well have had a point . For a street driven car that may only ever spend 10-15 mins at a time on the track I would say that it holds no water . There are plenty of turboed street cars that don't have this issue .
