btw for those of you who still are interested in this thread, in which i dont know why or how it got to this long of a debate, i havent seen many rx8 owners SPECIFICALLY ON THIS WEBSITE who have crashed their 8s. Meanwhile, i have seen many older guys crashing their 8s. BTW, i know their are more older people who have 8s than younger people, so the pulled out of my *** statistic doesnt really work too well unfortanutely.
Although: I like to believe that the trust that was involved my parents getting me my 8 made me realize how much crap i would be in if i violate that trust. Most people my age who i have known driving an 8 feel the same exact way. There is too much to loose with driving like an idiot. On the other hand, driving fast on the track is another thing! Man do I love racing... I "like to also think that" driving on the track takes the speed of everyday driving out of my schedule. When I drive back from the track especially, I find myself going under the speed limit due to getting the speed out of me during the day. Anyways, just some more notes to try and convince the stubborn ones out there...
BTW OLD FARTS, MY DAD LIKES DRIVING MY CAR MORE THAN HIS
I said that to **** you guys off^ lol

you youngsters need to think about it,,, us adults don't care if you payed for your car,, it is that some of us don't like kids driving sports cars. Any sports car. Most teenagers can't drive SAFELY.

I think that most can, its just a matter of if they choose to do so, and if they take into consideration the fact that they need to be extra careful to make up for their lack of experience in general.
Almost any mistake/unsafe move that I've made was due to a momentary lapse of attention, or not having sufficient experience, but I always try to space myself from others as much as possible so that I have time to make up for it.

I don't think there are many on here who don't "drive the car like they stole it" at some time or another on the road. What difference does it make if it is a teen or adult? The teen just needs to take into account his/her experience when deciding to do so.

Either way, HPDEs and Autocrosses are great methods of releasing the Tokyo Drift inside of you! I feel bad for my RX-8 as I expect that my first autocross with it will be kinda intentionally brutal :D

I believe if a teenager wants to drive safe they can.

Just because you hear that teenagers suck at driving, doesn't mean most of them do, sure it could be true, but I wouldn't know, I've never done a study on it and I doubt you have.

The same could be said for women drivers, people say most of them don't drive safely, but at the same point I bet most of them do.

When all the accidents you hear about is involved with a teenage driver, but what you don't hear is that out of the 10 accidents caused that day only 1 was a teenage driver, then do you really think most of them suck at driving?

Then again you could argue that their are more adults driving around, so it's more likely for them to get into a wreck.

But anyway, what we would need to do is setup a study that shows a ratio of how many teenagers that drive have accidents and then comapre it to how many adults that drive have accidents, and keep the same number of drivers on both sides so we can see which side has more accidents, and if the amount of the accidents for either side can be say around 70-80% of the number of people studied that way you could throw around the word "most".

So let me ask you, do you really believe that 3/4 or more of the teens that drive on the road, CAN'T drive safely? Well of course they can!

But anyway, just substitute that woth Don't. Do you really think a majority of teens don't drive safely?

Because I tell you, in high school (Which wasn't that long ago, so my memory is still pretty good), I don't remember too many people getting in accidents/tickers. Most of the people at my school were pretty safe drivers. And I knew a pretty good amount of people since I was in band, and had classes that didn't have too many repeats of other students in them (my classes weren't full of the same people I had in other classes), so I got socialize with a lot of different people that way too.

HEH HEH HEH, he said his own money.
Or the banks money!!
Just joking, pulling your chains, please dont be mad!!

Teenage drivers for the most part do not have the experience driving. That is a fact. Unless they have had racing experience, but that is still not the same as learning how others drive on the road. Most have only driven in their hometown areas, which again means they do not have experience. I'm not saying they cant drive but there surely is a lack of experience.

Plus we all know what we did as a teenager, you can lie to us but you cant lie to yourself

Parents who buy their children cars are cool and in debt!!
I bought my 8 year old a kart that he races (He's pretty good to) My son has spun out more than most here have which is helping with his car control. He can pull out of a half slide with slicks on dirt!!!

BTW Not really cool to use all the explicit language in public, shows no class!!

Give em a brake

Tips for 16yr old owner: Tip number one; Don't let your friends drive it! ( this includes boy/girl friends) Tip #2: Keep it under 100 (your too young to loose your license) Tip #3: Wax frequently(but you already know that) Tip#4: Avoid downshifting (if applicable) your clutch will thank you. Tip#5: Stay focused (you don't want to crash such a fine car) Tip#6: Take lots of pictures ( just in case you don't listen to tip #5) Tip#7: Just in case you don't follow tip#2 and the cops pull you over for speeding do what I did " But officer I was only in second gear " it might not get you off but it'll give the cop something to think about. Tip#8 Cars you don't want to drag race; Mustang GT (you can beat the 6cyl versions), 350Zs(they love to make us look bad.....thanks to Car & Driver), almost any V-8 (except trucks and SUVs) watch out for Toyota Tundra, You know what....just don't drag race....wait for the twisties...nobody is gonna hurt you there.....well....almost nobody. This could go on all day...... I'm an adult......with kids....7 kids.....( someone shoulda given me some tips ) Live while your alive. Drive while you can, and enjoy that Rx8 ( whatta great first car !)

eh so this is how it worked for me:
i was 16, almost 17, when my parents first bought my car.
i admit that i was a reckless bastard back in those early days. how i only managed to get 2 tickets still amazes me after looking back and seeing that by driving even around town and on the freeways i was a threat to myself and others, but the mountains is where i really let loose however. i saw a lot of my friends with their sports cars (rsx-s, eclipses) get into accidents in those mountain roads right before my very eyes. i end up losing my rx-8 after spinning doughnuts in the parking lot of an open space reserve up in the mountains. my parents took it away from me after i was charged with reckless driving. for 6 months, i had to drive a mini van. however, about 3 months after i got my 8 taken away, i was riding as a passenger in my friends eclipse over that same mountain road one fateful night and ended up crashed into the side of a tree, with my door collapsed over me. after being airlifted to the hospital, suffering head trauma, lacerating my liver, and breaking my hip and collar bone, i finally had my rude awakening. i spent the next couple months having to transfer into an adult education program to finish school because my injuries would not allow me to go back to my high school. Post-traumatic stress was another thing that would sometimes really get to me over that time. i finish school in the adult ed. program, and summer comes around. i'm finally able to walk around (not run let alone walk fast mind you). I work with my dad and towards the end of summer, i get my rx-8 back.
Now, even though it had literally been only mere months since i had been driving my rx-8 as if i were in the Fast and Furious, i had completely changed. It took a near-death experience to show me how wrong i was in my ways, and i'm sure my story isnt the only story like this with young sports car owners. except that they might not end up being as lucky as i was and leave their accident with their life in hand. the officers at the scene and some paramedics thought that i would not make it, and if luck hadn't been on my side i might'be died right then and there.
moral of the story, i'm not saying that all young sports car owners are like me or my friends, but the temptation of power in these machines is still there (after all, we are immortal) and the consequences can be more than we could have imagined possiblel to us.
