As for the reliability- while I've never actually owned a rotary(much to my sorrow), I can't imagine it's going to be any more reliable than the person that owns it. If you maintain it like it's supposed to be maintained, it'll probably last well into the hundreds of thousands of miles. If you treat it like crap, it's going to crap out on you. I'll bet many of the "realibility issues" everyone talks about, with the exception of some turbo issues, were from lack of care on the part of the owner.

"Insurance ratings haven't been announced - Thatcham have yet to judge the RX-8 - but expect the Mazda to fall into either group 16 or 17, which is what you would expect for a 150mph sports saloon."
so whatever "group 16 or 17" means

i would not say damn the torque...who doesn't need a "little" more torque?
the people complaining about torque just need to adjust to a different way of driving.
when i switch from my miata to the FD, i HAVE to remember not to floor it or else i will spin the rear wheels endlessly.

i dont know how my insurance will be, i dont see why it will be considered a sports car, my brother has teh new dodge intrepid, that has more horse power and more toruqe then the rx-8... well i hope ill be able to get this car its hot. i dont realy car about the torqe just as long it wont drive like a 4 cyl. haha thanks for all the replys let me know if any one has any more information thanks. by the way if you can figure out what that car is on the scale form 1 - 20 (the intrepid) idapresiate it .... sorry for the bad spelling im rushin later

What I have heard is that they base the category of a car on their horsepower-to-weight ratio... My Eclipse GS-T is considered a category 19, which is basically just shy of owning a Corvette...again, according to State Farm insurance. So if an RX-8 is only a 16-17, that ain't too shabby! :-)

Yes, but that was on a UK scale- not a US scale. There are so many factors that insurance agencies consider- power of the car, number of doors, anti-theft devices, safety rating, age of the driver, the record of the driver, area of the country, how many miles driven a year, deductible for repairs-- that I don't think ANY of us are going to get a realistic quote until much closer to the time to car is actually out.

Correct Elara, the US scales are completely different from European scales (US scales rate cars alphabetically instead of numerically).
True, there are a lot of factors when considering insurance rates. I recieved a bindable rate from Geico a while ago for $678.80 for an RX8 (GT model) and my POS Ford Explorer. See this thread for more: http://www.rx8forum.com/showthread.p...ight=insurance
To give you some background so you can compare what your rates MIGHT look like:
I'm 24 & male
No accidents (at least none still on my driving record, whew) :D
1 speeding ticket (74 in a 65)
Career professional
I live in a slightly above average neighborhood and park in a garage
Those of you with similar backgrounds should expect to pay something similar (but don't quote me on that )
