New car Buzz Kill

I've had my RX-8 for less than 2 weeks, and haven't had a speeding ticket in 4 years. Till today. My wife and I were driving to her Mom's tonight, I turned down the wrong road, speed limit went from 40 to 25. I pulled it out of 4th and coasted (42), the one car parked on this road was an unmarked, green, "municiple worker". I tried to play the "I just got this car, I didn't see the 25 sign..."

He was nice, only wrote me up for 5 over.

The high is OVER. I've been on cloud nine after finally getting my dream car. There is a serious downside to driving a car that EVERYONE notices. Now my insurance will go up, after it just went up for the new car.

one ticket shouldn't raise your rates. I've got 3 in the last 2 years and my rates haven't gone up.

You should also be able to do the driving school stuff and get away with just the cost of the ticket.

I've never got a speeding ticket in my life, I thought this was a little overkill, it was a female cop who stood out in front of my car and flagged me down. I think she estimated I was speeding but she was def wrong, she said " goin a little fast there weren't you " and I said " def not officer, digital speed said 35 " then she stared at me......and gave me a seatbelt violation when she knew I wasn't really speeding. Pretty lame.

Well... perhaps you should wear your seatbelt. You were probably too busy talking on your cell and drinking coffee to notice.

Seatbelt? Ha! All them restrains are what hold you in but what will hold your head/neck. Thats how Dale E. died.

Invest in a radar detector ASAP. Get the "good stuff". Passport or Valentine.

unless your local cops are using standard radar, I don't think detectors are worth much these days.

If they use laser, the moment you hear a beep, you're already caught.

My last ticket, I was zapped going over 50 mph over the posted limit. I sold my detector to pay for the ticket. It was a $300 detector too.

Most of the Barney Fife's around here are still using K & Ka band. Pick em up 1/4 to 1/2 mile away if conditions are right. No tickets in a long time. *Knocks on wooden head*.

a good detector plus a good laser jammer (Blinder) is a solid investment

I'm SERIOUSLY considering a detector, jammer, blinder, blah blah.
Though I'm afraid I'd speed MORE!

On a lighter note, the ride home was nice.

WE are the gods of the american road system. WE carve these intersections and bi-ways with nothing as crude as the bobbing pistons that built this country. Hot buttery smooth power connected to the asphalt by a bolt action sniper tranny. Spin.

Some states have some type of freebie system, where you pay your ticket and you can go to traffic school or something so your insurance rates don't go up. You have anything like this?

The thing about the RX-8 is that when you're going 140mph, you wont be caught.

But you will be caught for going 5-10 over.
