New Deal?

Ok the dealer that i know just called me and said they just got a Black 05 MT GT Rx in....the problem is it has 60,000 miles on it. As yall know i paid 15K for my 04 with 28000 miles on it. What would be a normal going rate for this 05, and would it be worth the exchange???
Im sorry to keep asking questions, but you guys helped me alot with the first one and this one is fully loaded..........Has 20's on it, its gorgeous!

Thanks for any help yall can give, and again im sorry to ask another ?

20s dont add to the value, id say pay 15,000 for it, so in other words id go in and say you want to trade straight up, then youd pay the fees and taxes on top of that. so thatd be like 16,000 down the road. Keep in mind the 30K mile jump, the dealer needs to keep that in mind too. *Beware, its out of warranty*

yeah thats what i was thinking too!
That sucks, although if anything went wrong in the next few months, they would fix it. Are the 05's much better or no??
I was thinking a straight up trade too, IF i did it!

yea, they ironed out alot of problems, but Id still see if the dealer can offer you a warranty, or just buy a powertrain. But I think a straight trade is fair if the car is nice and the dealership probably wont argue with you because your going up in miles. Make sure you test drive it thoroughly to make sure its not a terd.

Thank you for the words of wisdom, i really do appreciate it!
Ill see what they can offer me as far as a warranty....honestly he has treated me really good with the last two cars i have bought from him, so im not too worried about THAT aspect. I am however worried about the 30,000 more miles! GEEZ!
Everyone here though is telling me to get a MT no matter what....i like my AT ok, but it really doesnt have much power!!!

I have an 04 with no problems what so ever, but just like in any new car release the first year always has the most problems, but I feel Mazda has remedied most of these things through recalls, flashes, and service bulletins. So I think the 04 initially had the most problems of any year, but now I would say their right at par with the rest of the 8's. If you haven't had any problems with your 8 I would say keep it. Dealers are only out to make money (unless he/she is really close with you), plus you never know what your getting into with a new car (could be a lemon, or worse mis-treated for over double the miles your car has on it).

P.S. The 20's would scare me off enough. Does it have a big brake kit? If not your stopping distance is going to suffer, plus your acceleration is going to get worse. Rotational mass is the hardest thing to stop and get going.

EDIT: I dint know you had an auto. Manual is fun, but its not the end all be all. Do what your comfortable with. I would choose manual over auto any time, but ultimately money would be the factor.

This is true, because that COULD mean it was a young owner which COULD mean this car was traded in for a reason. Thats why Im saying make SURE you test drive it hard, make sure theres no grinding at redline in as many gears as you can get through before the salesman yells at you. Check for leaks, when they move it out of its spot, check the space for drops of oil, trans fluid. Turn the heaters on and smell for burning oil AFTER the hard test drive. I just dont want u to wind up with an MT like mine

Wow i never thought of it that way with the 20's....I agree with what youre saying about the 04's i just thought the AT still sucked...am i wrong?

Edited too: I am VERY comfortable with the MT's, i have test driven a few lately. They are awesome....Do the engines hang in there REALLY that much better than an AT?

Indeed it was a younger driver. A girl at that..HAHA jk
Anyway, she lived an hour away from her work so she was putting 2 hours of driving on it a day! Thats where the miles come in, but of course i havent driven it. Tell me if the MT are really that much BETTER than the AT's!!!

theyre faster, but they have their own distinctive problems. Either way an RX8 is an RX8, one has 238 hp, one has 212hp. Ask the dealer if you can contact the previous owner, in Iowa youre allowed to do that. Id call her and ask her why she traded her car, what problems it had, etc.

People on this website are die hard enthusiasts for the most part. So to them Auto's are sac-religious (granted in 8's AT have more problems too), but if your just driving the car to get back and forth to work and cruise the town, then your fine with an Auto. If you going to the track, then manual. Maybe a better question would be, do you think your car is underpowered? If not then stick with your car, if you do then go try out the 6 speed and see what you think.

I want to add alot of **** to it, also and i dont think i can add much to the AT...right!?

Thank you guys so much for the help, seriously!

Knowing what I do now. I would say go test drive it and see what you think. Money, though, would still drive my decision.

not much you cant add to the AT that you can to the MT.. turbo, intake, etc... all will work on an AT.. not sure what you were looking to do for aftermarket mods...

The dealer can, as long as she gives permission its completely legal. Have your salesman call her and ask if you can call. If the salesman says no, thats a red flag, that means they dont want u talking to the previous owner.

Another issue with the 20s is weight that the suspension has to deal with. Metal weighs a lot more than the rubber and air it's replacing so that adds stress to the suspension. If it were me, I'd look around for other deals. I bought my 05 with 4500 miles on it for about 18k. The one you're looking at has 55,000 more miles, with no warranty, for only 3k less. No reason you couldn't find one somewhere with less miles for a decent price.

As for AT vs MT, I'd always say MT. But then, I've always owned MTs so I'm biased. :-)

Offer 12k and see what happens. Or offer your car for the MT and 3k. They might just take it. Worst they can do is say no.

I would trade for the MT (straight up) in a freakin heartbeat considering its in good running form and has clean record. Thats just ME. Get an extended warranty, even if you have to pay for the warranty i believe it would be worth it. You can get you some new 17's or 18's dep on ur preference and sell those big *** 20's. Keep in mind that if you go test drive this one, however quick/nimble it feels at that time, you can be rest assured that with smaller/lighter wheels and tires it will be much quicker and responsive. Good Luck

And all of these opinions/responses are based on speculation as to the car's current condition, so, before making ANY decisions of course go see it, do thorough inspection as well as drive **** out of it. You could take bunch of pics (engine bay, interior, exterior, ect.) and post em up here for the hell of it.
