new engine
Well my 04 rx8 with 72000 miles is finally getting a new engine.
It has now been in 13x for the same flooding problem.
Mazda NA fianally stepped in and agreed to replace the engine.
I hope this solves my problem.

After reading your only other post (over a year ago), I'm wondering if you are just a troll. Me thinks, yes.

troll?
Excuse me mr No Tears. What is a troll?
My other post was regarding the same flooding issue which has been ongoing.
My 8 is an 04, 6sp with 72k.
If you doubt my post is legit call Obrien Mazda in Urbana Illinois and ask to speak to John S. the service manager. He will give you the history of my vehicle and tell you I was in a meeting with him and Mazda Region rep today who authorized my new engine.

Not everyone comes on the forum to post about good things, NoTears..
Whats the point of a forum, if you can't come on it to ask for help / tell about a problem?
I vote not a troll. Did Mazda take a compression test of your old engine before authorizing a replacement? If they didn't, I would've had that done first. If they did, and the numbers were fine, it could've been a leaky injector (or two), etc..
So many things can cause flooding..

thank you
Thank you AdRock,
Not that I need to justify myself to NoTears anyway,
Yes they did a compression test and although compressions were "somewhat low" they still checked out within the normal range, however they said the diference in ratings between chambers? was out of spec. When I with with Adam(the Midwest Madza NA rep) today he said that mine was the second most problems he has seen with an RX8 to date. He reviewed my service records and my file(which i saw) was over 2 inches thick.
Many things have been tried on my engine. He also said that continued floods over time damage the apex seals and that was another factor which led him to authorize my engine replacement. He told me that they want to restore my confidence in Mazda however both he and John(service manager) could not guarantee that a new engine will "fix" the flooding problem. They are "hotlining" an engine today and Adam said it should be in by Monday. He is going to "oversee" my engine replacement and I am to have the car back by Friday of next week.
I will return with an update after I get it back.

I'm not getting troll from this one. Just someone a little less enthusiastic about the car or cars in general that doesn't want to or have the time to spend on forums <shrugs> Though continued flooding damaging apex seals sound like a load of BS to me, but I don't know nearly as much about that as others here would.

well once you get a new engine, make sure you rev it alot before you park... I flooded once, but with 5 minutes of the de-flooding procedure I started to hear the loudest BRAP BRAP BRAP sound for 30 seconds then my engine idled at what felt 200-400 rpms for 20 seconds. After that it began to idle normal. How much did your engine flood? Weekly?

Ok, I am still not sure what a "troll" is. Someone help me out with that one please.
As for my enthusiam for the RX8. Ever since the early 90's I have been in love with the RX7 and always admired the rotary engine, however I was in college then and couldn't shell out 35-40k. When the RX8's came out in 2003 I fell in love with the look and I had to have one. I bought mine is August of 04. I love to drive this car and it handles like no other. You have to understand, however, that I HATE having to have it towed 13 times in 3 years. I do all the right things including the rev to 3k before shut down. It is stored in my heated garage and always warmed up before shutdown. I still love my car and want it back working but if they can't solve it I am going to have to give it up. I think I have been very patient letting them try to figure it out.

Yeah dude, having mine in the shop many times has taken some of the luster away but I have to stick with her for at least another year. I had to have my gas tank and my heater replaced after the engine install. It is just a huge pain in the ***. But I do love the dynamics of the car.

Something I dont understand, how does the *flooding* issue *affect* your apex seals ? Would you mind to explain that ?
and have you ever thought about why did it flood 13 times ? Is it really the engine? or you are the problem ?
U know flooding has nothing to do with the engine, it has to do with ECU programming, weak battery, slow starter and old spark plug design, all of which already been fixed long time ago.
Too bad that you have to tow your 8 13 times in 3 years, It sounds like a Lemon to me. Every Auto company has their own *lemons*. Thanks for coming up and making this a *big thing*. Which helped nothing.

How would he be the problem? He stated he has done everything prior to start etc.. Why are all you bitches so sensative anytime someone says something negative about the RX8? It is what it is man, no one can change the fact that the RX8 has significant problems.

apex seals
I did not say that flooding damaged the apex seals. I was told today in my meeting with Mazda Midwest NA rep that he spoke with 2 Master techline rotary mechanics and he was told that by them. He passed that info along to me today. I am only passing along what I was told today. You can call it user error if you want but the flooding/hard start persists today for the mechanics at Mazda where my car has sat for the past 10 days.
They are witnessing the same no start problems as I have so they must be having "user error" also.

sounds like you really got a lemon ... but took you long enough to discover it !
Well they're replacing it anyway. Do you know if its brand new or Reman?

Would you mind to explain what do you mean by *singnificant* problems ?
Nothing personal, I just want some *real* answers.

I asked them today if I was getting a brand new one from Japan or a raman.
He told me it would be a reman but that if it had the same problems they would come up with a "different" resolution for me?

Most people get Reman engines. they factory test them to make sure they're within the spec. Most *failed* engine only got some Carbon despoit stuck at the exhaust port. so just clean them and its good as new
but if it doesnt work, dont let me give you options. You should give them options. and theres only one solution :
Give you a brand new 07, or keep bugging them until they do something about it

dan,
i dont know how you could manage to flood it 13 times... i have not been able to do it once in 65k miles. and i do nothing to take precautions to avoid flooding...
do you have the upgraded starter and batt? also... with that many floods has the cat been changed? if not that very well could be the source of you problems...
btw, i have a reman motor.. could not be happier..
