You could explain that situation to the dealer, and ask is there a way to track the maintenance done in the US, by VIN number? Sort of imply that you have done your share of the maintenance, and if they can't track the US records, that's really not your fault.

Yeah, I know it's a long shot, but still leaves the door open for you to 'track down the US owner' and present some American receipts if you 'find' some.....

I had mine replaced in December . They first told me I needed receipts to prove I did the oil changes and plugs . My answer "I don't have any receipts,I've been working on all my cars and bikes for 10 years . The car is 3 years old with 42,000 . Who holds receipts on a basically new car?Besides take a look at the plugs and you'll know they were changed out." He said "Well how do we know they were the right plugs?" My answer "Because I paid almost 90 God damn bucks for 4 friggin spark plugs." End of discussion they fixed the car with no receipts .

Did you know anyone who owns a shop or works at one? That happened to a friend and he just explained to his shop friend the problem and they wrote out a receipt for the 2 oil changes he was missing. Worth a try for a new engine. Unless up there they have to be from a dealership. Does carfax show that info if it was done at a dealership?
