New Engine Club Question
I know there's been a lot of engine warranty replacements but how many were really needed? Would you want your engine replaced with a factory rebuilt engine if you really didn't need it? Asking because I just read the thread about the engine replacement at 99,000+ miles. At 99,000 miles you have nothing to loose, but lets say at 35-55,000? Hypothetically asking of course.

Well. I would because all rennies will fail prematurely IN MY OPINION. It could be at 22k or 96k. So if you have a decent amount of mileage I would get a replacement considering it is free.
I had my first engine replaced at 22,000 miles, second replaced at 96,000 miles and now at 126,000 I am putting another one on (on my own dime this time) and I have to say it's hit or miss with remans. My first reman lasted 74,000 miles, my second only 30,000 miles, but then again my first factory engine only lasted 22,000 miles.
A reman is compiled of new parts but also of used/worn parts and it's longevity is based a lot on that and who is rebuilding it. But either way a Renny is not likely to last much past 100k.

If my engine really failed, sure I'd take a replacement under warranty. But if it gets close to 100K and is still running OK, I'd feel more comfortable sticking with it rather than rolling the dice on an overhauled one.

Nope. The replacement engines were supposedly rebuilt, but from all the discussion here (including Sleepyz, who supposedly worked at the Virginia rebuilding plant) it sounds more like they were overhauled.

Yeah I here you on that! Seems like there has been on more than one occasion a replacement engine for one that has been replaced

Besides it changing the character of the car, does an engine swap make economic sense?
If mine blew after the warranty was up, and everything else on the car was still OK, I'd be inclined to get one of the engine builders who frequent this site to rebuild it. Way less cash outlay than buying a new car - if I could even find one that I liked as much as the 8.

V-8 Swap? I am neither rich nor or am I a custom fabricator/electrical prefessional. I laugh every time someone throws around V-8 engine swaps like it's so easy.

Yep, pineappleracing rebuild on a fresh 2008 5,000 mile factory built motor that was well running prior to the rebuild. Engine and Turbo kit are going in the car in a week or so.
