New engine....i wonder
Ok, so ive had my car about a month now. The previous owners claimed it was perfect and since ive had a few minor problems ive tried to get ahold of them with no response (imagine that they already have my money). No to much of a big deal besides the jack arm missing, making the jack usless, oh well. My BIG concern is the car has 50k miles on it, it got it's motor replaced at 40k miles with a used motor with 30k miles on it (have the paper work and all that). My question is if Mazda has this warranty (which im still under with an 04 and 50kmiles). Why did the previous owners pay about 4k$ for a new engine and having it put in? Seems like something that Mazda should have done for free right? They didn't say why the new motor was put in, so i dont know what the problem was. The new motor seems to be running fine (besides the check engine light comming on on 2hr+ road trips, and then turning back off before i can take it to autozone to pull the codes). I suppose i should check the coils and plugs anyway because i have no idea the last time they where checked. But my big big concern is why didn't Mazda cover the new engine?

Personally. I wouldnt worry much about it other than that CEL.
The best thing would be to contact them. If not go to a Mazda dealer, and see if they tried to have it replaced under warranty and were denied for some reason.
Actually you might want to check to see if the car has a warranty, maybe the previous owners voided it for some reason, could be information worth having sooner than later.

Warranty could be voided if you add aftermarket parts such as performance parts, lowering your car etc. The dealer that I go to was a lil cool they allowed me to add an intake. Some dealerships are against it they would void the warranty if they see an intake if by any chance you take your car there with an engine problem. Ask your dealer about anything that your planning to do/add as for aftermarket parts such as an intake myself they may or may not allow. (Mazda is trying to save money anywhere that they can b/c they have lost alot of money due to replacing so many engines)

mazda will try to void your warranty for anything!!! but I would also check the service history...
and for that CEL I'd still take it over to autozone and check for any pending codes the PCM might have stored. Does it blink or just turn on solid?

the engine light comes on solid, also the air bag light comes one (the seller told me it was because a wire is loose but is still functional, but the dealership wanted to replace the whole harness and it was to $$$). But im skeptical about that, ill call mazda later today when they're open. I do have a feeling my warrnty would be voided considering my cars dropped and a flywheel is in it. i dunno (crosses fingers)

I have had airbag light come on for no reason, then when I unplugged and replugged the affected airbag connection a couple of times, the light went away. The light flashes a code which can be used to identify which airbag is at fault.
There was a time period when some cars were out of the first factory warranty, before mazda extended the engine warranty. I rebuilt an engine for a customer who was out of warranty 1 month before the extended warranty came out. I had another potential rebuild customer who contacted me 1 week before the warranty got extended, and had I not been nice enough to tell him about the new warranty, he would probably have paid me for a rebuild as well. Perhaps your car fell into the same time period.
