Yeah, I-20 in Arlington. Talked to them again on Friday and they're saying there is nothing they can do to help with labor on the replaced parts (other than the engine) or a rental. This is incredible frustrating and I think a call to Mazda NA is in order. The dealership claims not to be allowed to approve what I'm asking for sue to MNA policy. If that is the case, my beef is with MNA and I'll take it up with them.

im now sitting in the "bend over and take it" boat. I need motor mounts and all the the parts that mazda says i have to replace in order to get the warrenty motor. So im looking at 900 + out the door. I gave up on the rental. 200 a week is not going well with my pocket knowing that I will end up spending nearly 1000 in the next few weeks. so for those that say 1000 is a rip off its looking like the norm now

Order the parts online will save you a lot

1000 bux for motor mount + labor is just freaking rip off, it takes like 30 minutes to replace your motor mounts on JACKSTANDS ! I mean seriously ! WTF !

Someone should make a Sticky that lists all of the most common things that dealers will try to charge people for when a dead engine 8 is brought in, and then list the average price that the car owner should expect to pay for said parts/labor. I mostly see the, "we can't do a compression test until we've replaced the cat and/or plugs/coils/wires at your expense", oh yeah, hoses is third. Do they make you replace the coils even if they're almost new, like 5k miles? And has anybody had the dealer cover the cost of the tow to the dealership?

My engine died on me about 3 months ago, she seized solid... was told the next day that they had ordered me a new engine as they could find no reason for the failure.

It took 4 weeks for the new engine to arrive....

They didnt charge me for a thing. Free tow to the dealership (aka roadside assistance) I got new plugs, lower intake manifold, oil injectors, and a few other parts... mind you there was anohter 8 in the shop for an engine swap at the same time and as it was a few days further along in the process whatever parts went bad on that one they ordered for mine They even gave me a rental car for 3 of the 4 weeks

The whole thing is free if you are still under original factory warrenty (under 60000 miles or 4 years) if you are on the factory extended warrenty like me (88000 miles on my car) which states that the warrenty will cover the engine core, then we the owner end up paying the misc. parts (no labor though)

Yup, Hiley Mazda in Arlington. They are saying that MNA changed its polcy on rentals and that there is nothing they can do about any of these charges... I guess I need to call MNA and see if I can change their mind.

Given that it takes a month to get a remanned engine to your average dealership, this news is f*ing fantastic.

what baffles me is we pay for a car that has a typical engine life span of 85000 miles, and when the engine stops we then have to wait for at least a month to get a new motor plus we have to pay for a rental car for all this time. On top of the 200 a week for a rental I have to then go to the bank and pay my car payment. This is sad and depressing. I love my car but this makes me want to SELL

More like Mazda Underestimate the oil requirements of this engine and Overestimate the intellegence of average RX-8 owners.

They should not charge you for the rental... I would have piched a bitch at the service manager and refused to pay for the rental... as for the other parts they are screwing you on the prices...

Am I better off complaining before I see the final invoice, or paying it and then bitching to MNA when I have all of the details in from of me?

They say it will be ready today; finally. 5 weeks to the day since they first looked at it... Parts and labor to replace plugs, wires, and coils is supposedly going to run about $700. On top off that, they told me my clutch was worn and since the engine was out anyway it would be much cheaper (1 hour labor) to replace. Also, tires were worn so I had them replaced too.

I guess the grand total will be about $2000 (although $600 for tires and the same for the clutch replacement are legit). It'll be practically a new car when I get it back, but 5 weeks??!! I was able to use the old lady's vehicle (thankfully she is a teacher and hasn't needed it to get to work) in the meantime, but what if she had to work alll summer? I would have had to rent a car for FIVE WEEKS at my own expense for a problem that took way too long to diagnose, way to long to order the engine, and way too long to arrive, AND that Mazda essentially admits is their fault?! Anyone got some good bullet points to make sure I convey to Mazda NA when I call?
