New engine time

New engine time
Well I blew my engine this last Sunday. Wasn’t even getting on it that hard, just kinda went pop, I suspect it ate a seal. Only managed to get to 99.8k miles, Couldn’t break the 100 mark with the original! Did a compression test for fun yesterday. Rotor 1 low, and 2 has absolutely nothing, tester didn’t even read rpm. Thinking about going with Pettit for a rebuild, any opinions on their stage 2 build?

Couple pictures of the carnage Cam sent me. Got the engine back a couple weeks ago. 2 new rotor housings, new(low mileage used) rear rotor, center and rear irons. Installed new water pump, thermostat, radiator hoses, lightweight flywheel, clutch, plugs, wires, coils. Started it for the first time today: runs smooth, but I’ve got quite an oil leak from an omp line. Luckily I ordered 2 sets of gaskets for the install (first one was on order for 4 weeks before shipping and I got tired of waiting) so I’ll have new crush washers to install tomorrow.

Good to hear you've got your engine rebuilt.
If you'd like to comment on your experience and breathe some life into the rebuilder's thread, I'd appreciate it.
The last few posts did refer to some bad experiences with Pettit, so your experience is relevant also.
Thanks,
BC

BC, once I put some miles on it and really see how it runs I’ll be sure to make a post in that thread.
JB, I have not comp tested it and don’t plan to unless I have a problem with it. It sounds a lot healthier than the old engine has for a long time though.
I’m kind of getting to the point where I’m a bit sick of working on it lol, I just want to drive it again.

77 cylinders, 4 rotors...
Setsuna,
Do you have any pix of the front housing that you can post?
I would like to see the worn one.

Been busy this week and finally got around to fixing my oil leak today. Quite obvious the problem here. The washers I installed with the engine were ordered from Atkins, same part number as the new ones I ordered from Mazda. Put 90 miles on the new engine and it’s great so far!
