New to the Forum
Greetings all,
I am new to the forum but I am considering purchasing an Rx8. I was able to find a great deal upon the car down here in south florida and after driving a few other cars this is currently my favorite car. (drove the new mustang, eclipse, acura RSX, mazdaspeed6, charger, etc..) I prefer this car but I have read that there have been alot of problems with engines flooding and other things like that.
I was hoping that you all might be able to give me some information of what I can expect good and bad for the car. I really do love the car and my family has become a pro mazda company, but I wish to be sure what I am getting into before I purchase the car.
Thank you for the help
Jeffery

Welcome to the boards. The engine flooding problem isn't too much of an issue any more with the new ecu flashes, but just to be on the safe side, don't start it up and shut it down while its cold, let it run a little bit. Also don't start it up and shut it down repeatedly. Follow that and you'll be just fine. There are some deflooding procedures in the Tech Garage section in case you don't listen.

Thanks for the posts back and for the information. Also thank you for the welcome.
I am curious with the flooding, would getting a turbo timer work upon that? (just so the car keeps running for a few minutes after I turn it off just to make sure it keeps heated up and all).

Flooding is only a minor concern that can be easily avoided. Living in Florida you should be able to get the RX-8 up to normal temp in less than five minutes. So long as you do not shut down a stone cold engine your fine. If you have to do such a thing like for example moving a car around to wash all you do is bring the RPM’s to around 3,500 and then turn the key off and let the motor “ spin down “. I don’t valet park the car or let others drive it but if you need to just insist on the warm engine / “spin down”.
