New GT - DSC?

New GT - DSC?
Well, I finally got my '07 Velocity red GT-8, and I 'm having a great time with it. Only one hitch - as the dealer was running through all the features (and there are quite a few), I said, "I don't see where to insert the CD into the 6-disk changer." And to our astonishment, there was no CD player at all...came from the factory without it. Took several days to order and install it, only to find it was defective...would only load one CD at a time. Several days later (without the car, as the dash was out) it's in and all is well (the dealer even threw in an RX-8 license plate frame and a big discount on a brushed aluminum fuel filler door.)
One of the reasons I REALLY wanted to get back to a real wheel drive car is so I can hang the rear end out on occassion. So - how does dynamic stability control really work? I did a search, but didn't find much. So - when you want to slide the car around, do you just switch off the DSC? Any ideas?

Strange, sounds like you don't have an in dash front loading 6 CD changer as you'd never be expecting to load more than one at a time.
Do a google search on DSC or read the owner's manual to see how it works but there is a button to turn it on and off, bottom left from the steering wheel. I've never turned it off to be honest.

I turn mine off, but I am also battling deep snow occasionally.
Its quite the help at times, but scary as hell with others.. I've been white knuckled on ice and afraid to turn it off (for fear of it taking off if I remove a hand from the wheel for one second...)
If you're in Cali you dont have deep snow to worry about
The manual should tell all.. I cant recall what it says at this exact moment..
Search the forum as well. Lots of info on here.

Welcome to the club and congrats on the car.
DSC is useful when you're not in the mood to play 'cus it can save your ***.
Turn it off and go play around in a big parking lot. Try some power slides and donuts!
Switch it on and try the same thing and you'll see what it does. (make sure you have lots of room)

Because of it's balancing, the RX's *** will go from grip to slip with little warning, and with a quickness. On the flip side, the *** will go from slip to grip in an instant, and try to throw you from your seat as it snaps back into place.
I'd recommend you leave the DSC on during the day, and turn it off at night when you're on empty roads and trying to get a sense of how the RX feels in a fishtail. Make sure you pick roads with plenty of room for error.
Personally, I enjoy kicking the *** out from behind me every once in a while too, and I can have plenty of fun with the DSC turned on. You wont be holding any slides with it on, but time your turn well with the throttle in the right gear and you can easily get a nice 60-90 degree snap out of her.
The DSC is by far one of the best ones out on the market. It jumps in the instant you begin to lose control, and gives you back full control the instant you're recovered. It's not the least bit intrusive, and still lets you have fun when you want.
On or off is your call, though. Just do us a favor and make sure you're the only one around before you do something risky - just because you're comfortable with the risks doesn't mean everyone else around you is.

From Wikipedia: Should give you a general idea about how stability control programs work. Every manufacturer designs their's differently :
Operation
ESC compares the driver's intended direction in steering and braking inputs, to the vehicle's response, via lateral acceleration, rotation (yaw) and individual wheel speeds. ESC then brakes individual front or rear wheels and/or reduces excess engine power as needed to help correct understeer (plowing) or oversteer (fishtailing). ESC also integrates all-speed traction control, which senses drive-wheel slip under acceleration and individually brakes the slipping wheel or wheels, and/or reduces excess engine power, until control is regained. ESC cannot override a car's physical limits. If a driver pushes the possibilities of the car's chassis and ESC too far, ESC cannot prevent a crash. It is a tool to help the driver maintain control.
ESC combines anti-lock brakes, traction control and yaw control (yaw is spin around a vertical axis).

You do know you have to press load for each CD and wait for it too actually say "load" on the display???
If you didn't have the changer, the dealer removed it and put it into some other car or you don't have a GT. Does the car have fog lights and a factory sunroof as well?

It's definitely a GT. They actually had two GTs on the lot that didn't have any CD player at all...and they issued a warning to other dealers to look out. And when they put a 6-disk changer in, the load button didn't do anything - definitely defective. But they put another one in and it works fine. (The poor guy that bought the other GT with no changer still doesn't have his yet. Apparently they are in short supply. Maybe that's why they went out without the changers??? I dunno.)
