New Guy
Hello Everyone !
I got my brand-new 2005 "winning blue" MT on November 28. I have the sport package but no spoiler or "nav" and I got the dealer to install the MP3 player for me. I traded in a 2000 Miata. I love the "8" so far; 1700 miles and no problems yet. Likes are: interior space, power, and cool factor. Concerns are blind spots and fuel consumption, but I knew about those before buying the car. Steering is not as quick as the Miata, but very few cars steer as quick as a Miata. Also Miata has no blind spots with top down, and very little with hardtop. Miata got 26 mpg and so far RX-8 is averaging about 14. Also I hear a compressor cycling on and off in the "8" even when I am not using A/C, defrost, or heater -- What's with that? Sorry if I should have searched on any of these items before posting... I love my new car and am still on the initial rush.
-Freddie
PS: I broke in my new Renesis engine just slightly harder than suggested by Racing Beat, but always warm it up 5 to 10 minutes before driving and never shut it off while still cold.

congratulations! you got the bestest and fastest color! here's to many happy miles in your new 8!
what area are you in?
for blind spots, adjust your mirrors wide (proper, IMO). when you do so, you will find that the blind spots are in places where the cars can't really hide anymore. it's much better for almost all driving. for parallel parking, you gonna have to start moving your noggin' around to the left and the right to get that view that you used to have. I think that's not much more work for safer driving though.
sport package is the best! mp3 player is also hella nice (I installed that aftermarket)

Welcome. To take car of your blind spots go get a pair of those self adhesive 1" circular mirrors. Attach them in the corners of your side mirrors. When I bought my car used, they were already there and I really like them.

Thanks, Everyyone, from New Guy
Still totally love my new car !
To Astral, I agree on the color. To Speider, yes, I met a fellow RX-8 owner at a rest stop along one of our favorite local mountain roads (Angeles Crest Highway and Mount Wilson, for those of you in the know)... he had those convex mirrors and said they were the first accessory he would recommend. My only fear is whether they would come off if I decide I don't like them. Finaly to CStokes24, my new RX-8 has gotten better than 20 mpg on open flat highway at 65 mph in 6th with cruise control. My old Miata occasionally got worse that 20 mph when brutally flogged. I like to drive in the mountains, where the Miata could go faster into the sharp turns but the RX-8 is faster and more fun accelerating out of them! I suppose both cars burn much more fuel going up the mountains, and much less coming back down. Generally there are no gas stations at the top so I may never know for sure. I also unfortunately get stuck in LA freeway traffic (both cars) and occasionally use the A/C in the "8" but almost never did in the Miata (always drove with top down in warm weather).
I figured out the compressor thing by reading these forums a little more:
https://www.rx8club.com/series-i-tech-garage-22/when-c-compressor-running-47152/ -- Now I don't use the "floor" settings and I think my gas mileage has improved!
Thanks again and Happy New Year !

Wow !
It's just like the Miata board at http://www.miata.net/ where all the "Hello from New Guy" posts quickly turn into "My Color is Best" threads. I think I'm going to like it here.
