new here

hey everyone~.. i'll be in the market for a new car within the next 2 months (finally got myself a real job.. =P)... either way, i've been reviewing different boards for the last few months.. i figure what better way to learn about a car then from real world owners and not some magazine reviewers that drive the car for weekend... i honestly love what the rx8 promised when i first saw it.. it does look fantastic.. has the high revving rotary all in a relatively lightweight package that seats 4.. that being said, after a week of reading over these boards.. i've been convinced not to buy one.. i've never seen so many negative posts on an enthusiast forum before.. it's rather scary to see the more negative posts than positive on the general topics forum.. as my car purchase will be the first "big" purchase i'll be making on my own, i can't see laying 30k on a car that i might be dissapointed with.. i know it's the salesmen's job to "sell" me the car, but if you owners knew what you know now about you car, would your money go to a different vehicle?

If you've really been reading here for a week, then you should have realized that there are a bunch of trolls hanging out here who don't even own an RX-8 and love to talk it down. There's also a very few who have had problems with their 8s, and (as they should) come here to discuss those problems. BUT, there's already 8000 RX-8s sold in the US, and you certainly don't see thousands of us complaining or having problems. Aside from disappointing fuel mileage which affects many of us, there aren't any really big problems.

Again, if you've seriously been reading here for a week, then you should also have seen a few very similar threads to this one, and a few surveys asking about owner satisfaction, which would show you that overall RX-8 owners are very satisfied with their vehicles. Don't let the trash talk fool you - it's a great car.

Regards,
Gordon

You're hearing but you're not listening. Read this and this. Collectively, they show 100 reasons why we love this car, and that less than 7 percent of owners are unhappy. Try to match that with any other car on the road.

It is impossible to gauge the quality of the car by just skimming this forum. Of course there are going to be some problems. This is true with any new car, but the number of problems would appear to be greatly magnified by just looking here.

Problems are reported here at a much higher percentage than all the good news about this car. So, just taking a short look around will give a skewed view about the car.

The vast majority of *real* RX-8 owners LOVE the car. A few have had problems, but Mazda is making good. Any new model will have problems, and this one has fewer than most. The Infiniti G35 coupe, for instance, has MANY more problems, still, and it's been in the market for 2 years now.

If you're really thinking about buying a car, get the '8. You won't regret it.

Congrats on the job! And on being ready to buy a new car.

I had narrowed my choice down to the G35 coupe or the RX8 and I chose the RX8. Yes, the G35c produces more torque and has better fuel economy, but the RX8 is more comfortable and is just more fun to drive. I also think it's better looking.
So I traded my 2003 Mercedes-Benz C230kompressor coupe for the RX8 and I haven't looked back. If you like the RX8, by all means get it.

I spent a lot of time reviewing the choices before pre-ordering my RX-8 last January. After that I still considered other choices, and felt like I knew the RX-8 inside & out.

So that leads me to respond to your question:
but if you owners knew what you know now about you car, would your money go to a different vehicle?
You are right, even though I thought I knew what I was purchasing - not until I took delivery, and then 4 months of ownership, did I really know about this car. This is what I know that I didn't know earlier:

> It is the best vehicle choice I've ever made
> I dream about this car - really!
> I can't wait to drive her
> It's handling characteristics are phenomenal
> The braking is incredible & sure
> When I park, I always have to look back at her

So, to answer your question, no, without a doubt I would keep ownership of this amazing piece of machinery.
