Smile new here

Hey guys
im new here
i have an 04 rx8 gt with 52k miles on it..
runs great :D
hope to be part of this wonderful community and learn on how to make my rx8 las t as long as possible.
i had a few questions too.
1) how reliable are rotary engines and how long can the last for ( with ideal maintenance)
2) Are there any mods that can increase performance and also help the car last longer?

since youve bought the car, why are you care about reliability anymore? if it was a death trap, youve jumped in already. just enjoy the car and fix whatever problems its gonna give ya.

make sure you have the latest version of the PCM so that the engine doesnt wear out prematurely since you have an 04.

60k is a great time to put a new engine in, compression check time lol. that gives your 40k to blow it and get the new one at 95k realistically.

1. Never mind the car. How long will any of us last, even with ideal maintenance?

2. Yes. But you'll have to search.

Welcome, and enjoy your ride. Spend some time browsing the forum, join a few threads when they pique your interest. Don't let the worriers and over-maintainers scare you.

That's all any of us want for ourselves.

As Jason said, make sure you have the latest PCM flash. It would be a good idea to take it to a good Mazda dealer and have them check that all recalls and updates have been done.

Aside from that, follow scheduled maintenance, except change oil and filter at 3k miles (4.82k km, I think) instead of what the book says. Enjoy the high revs - good for the engine, good for your soul.

Yes… you can mod your driving ability. If you really want to increase performance, take the money you would throw away on engine mods and give it to Skip Barber for some driving classes. And learn autocross, and do it regularly. That'll improve your lap times far more than anything you could bolt on. Count on it.
