new member...few questions
So, the rx8 was a b-day gift for my husband last year. (it's been his dream car since it was a drawing on a piece of paper). I'm actaully more of an suv, 4x4, jeep, type chic. However, I've been driving his car recently and I REALLY like it! And I normally HATE cars.
it's a 2004, 6 speed, grand touring pkg, 68K miles
My questions:
I'm in the USAF and getting stationed in Alaska next year and I was wondering how the car will do in the cold. I am getting scissor slide lambo doors put on and I know the complications that can come with that...but besides that.
(doors: http://sector29.com/PRODUCT_PAGES/28/28-2096-p2096.html )
When I get the doors done I was thinking I might as well have them put in a cold air intake and exhaust. Any suggestions? I found an AEM intake and borla exhaust: http://www.autopartswarehouse.com/po...N0ZWVsIFRoYXQg and http://www.autopartswarehouse.com/po...AgU3RhdGUgTGVn
He bought this chip...tell me it's pointless because I know it is : http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...m=190235935924

I assume you've also heard that intake and exhaust on the RX8 doesn't add much power, and that's it's really for for sight and sound.
Having said that, I personally would go with either the racing beat products or the mazdaspeed products because I like a more subdued sound and image.
However, if you're putting lambo doors on an 8, then you probably want something a little louder...

lambo doors in the snow = lots of snow and ice inside the car..
and i cant guess how hard it would be to unfreeze them.
cold air and exhaust are fine. just dont look for big #s
the chip. well you called that right..
so is this a link fest or what????
my last work car / beater was a 4wd subrau 4wd wagon.. that is what i would take to alaska..
even with the best snow tire setup..rx8 = no!

One Shot One Kill
i don't think the rx8 will fare too well there, i'd rather get an evo X or something.
but ya, all i would recommend on ur scenario is some snow tire, tire chain, lightweight exhaust and perhaps an intake and call it quits, alaska should be tough on lowered cars. oh, 0W30 i will recommend XD
