New Member Intro - Picking up 2007 RX-8 Today
Hi all,
I have been reading the pages of information here leading up to my decision to sign the papers for a 2007 Galaxy Grey RX-8 GT (fully loaded ver. in Canada). I was also lucky enough to get the Mazdaspeed package they are offering as a promotion in Canada.
Three years ago, I purchased a Mazda 3 GT, which I have been thoroughly impressed with. I have a racing background with open wheel karts, and this has given me a fine appreciation for a well mannered vehicle.
While the Mazda 3 is a great vehicle, the characteristics of a front wheel drive car has been an issue for me throughout ownership – especially in the rain. I am looking forward to moving to a rear wheel drive, balanced machine – also looking forward to switching off that TCS/DSC for some fun in the wet.
0-60 does not interest me, if it's speed I want, I can hop on my sportbike; nor do stats of one car compared to another. I had only one criteria for my next vehicle – ‘is it fun to drive’. The RX-8 answered that call - for me, nothing in its price range touches it. This car has some serious personality.
I have done my due diligence in regards to researching this car - I am prepared for some extra maintenance and fuel costs. I have seen the recommended break-in's listed on this site, and some seem a little excessive for me; I am going to meet it somewhere in between by keeping the rev's below 5K for the next 500KM, then slowly (over the next 500K) work my way up the rev range from there – never racing the engine, and no constant speeds.
Now that I have introduced myself, I look forward to contributing to the forum.
Cheers.
Brad
