New Member - Prospective RX8 Owner

Hello!

I have been reading posts on this website for some time so I decided to join. I will soon (maybe winter, most likely spring) be looking to buy an rx8. I've loved the car since they came out originally and now that the prices are low, what better time? My last sports car was an '05 Pontiac GTO. The straightline speed and sideways speed was very impressive and enjoyable. I realize the rx8's are usually referred to as underpowered but I plan on changing that with mine without ruining the handling.

Currently, I am looking for a whitewater pearl or winning blue sport rx8 (m6). Any tips, advice, or just introduction is always welcome. Thanks in advance for such a supportive community/forum!

I recently purchased a new 2010 GT off a dealer lot and got a pretty big discount off the sticker.

I'm not sure how much you want to spend, but check out what is available new nearby, and you might be surprised by the deal you can get.

Browse the performance forums on this site, and get a feel for what it takes to siginficantly increase an RX-8's power.

Psssst... youre going the wrong way!

I'm kidding... I own an 05 GTO right now, too. I think it's cool you appreciate the RX8. I was the original owner on two 2004 RX8's and I truly loved the cars. It's very difficult to describe the level of handling the RX8 achieves to other GTO owners. Most of them cant comprehend that even a full suspension "Pedderized" GTO feels nothing like an RX8. Of course, most turbo RX8 owners cant comprehend the brutal power of an 800hp turbo GTO.

I'm looking for a proven way to drop an LS2 or LS3 in an RX8. I'd be in heaven. There really isn't one, yet.

You probably already realize this if you've been reading the forum, but forced induction for the 8 is not like it is for the LSx. Your options will be fairly narrow(comparatively), tuning is difficult, and if you like the bleeding edge, you better know your stuff about the rotary, and have the backing of very knowledgeable shop/vendor. What you spend to get a solid 350rhwp setup on the RX8 would net you 500-600rwhp on the GTO. Just know that going in... but you're also dealing with a much lighter car.

If I had it to do all over, I would have chased after making the RX8 handle even better, and just leave the engine alone... stock. The strength of the 8, as everyone will tell you, is the handling experience. A select few have mastered getting a great deal of power out of the Renesis. A greater percentage have learned how "difficult" it is... just what I think...

Welcome to the forum!

Welcom ABM!

Great post Yax. I going the handling route that he mentions

Give the Major Horspower Upgrades a good long look as Ken said. Be sure to read RIWWP's link. You'll find it very helpful.

Enjoy!

Good luck finding what you're looking for. I have a ctsv and it's a very fun car and I was used to having gobbs of power, but the rx8 is still a really fun car. Anywho, good luck with your search for an rx8.

rather than start a new thread, I will add to this one since the topic is the same. my need for a car with a back seat will soon make me a member of the rx-8 club. I have spent the last few weeks doing lots of research, mostly at this site and a few others. I will pick up an '04 or '05 in the next few weeks.

Thanks! I read most of this and got quite a bit of information I didn't know... such as differences in model years and when reman engines became decent.

That was a very informative post. I've only been in a pedders gto once and it made a huge improvement but nothing like the rx8. What do you expect from a 3777lb pig? Haha. I also had a torrid red beauty. The main reason I wanted the sport package and not grand touring is to keep unnecessary weight down.

Fyi I have a friend who works at Performance Autowerks here in IL and will probably be doing my tuning on their dyno. Oddly enough, they specialize in putting LSx's in the Kappa platform (aka solstice/sky).

Thanks again for your post!
