New member saying whats up!
Yo, just wanted to say whats up to everyone since I'm new to the rotary scene. This is my first rotary/Mazda. I'm coming off of a 2005 STi which I must admit I miss quite a bit, but a recent accident, monetary stress of owning a home, and the fact that I'm not too fond of the new front end have led me to the RX8. I must say the STi was a great car and I'll never lose respect for it, but the RX8 is a monster of its own. I'll end my novel now and hope that the Mazda community is as helpful as the Subaru community was. Thanks.

Sorry to hear about your STI, but grats on the new car and I hope you enjoy it. I'd also be curious to hear how much your insurance rates dropped with the RX-8.
P.S. Thanks for the introduction Carbon.

CarbonRX8: Thanks for the welcoming, as far as whether congratulations are in order I'll accept them because it’s definitely an upgrade in some ways.
Raptor2k: The lower insurance rates are nice, Thanks.
RedSheDevil: Thanks, that little rotary definitely has some power.
IkeWrx: Thanks a lot man, it hurt when it happened but, some good came out of the whole situation. (Good= RX8, lower car payments and lowered insurance)
Yiksing: Thanks, no complaints here and believe me, the search button and I go way back.
Barry Gross: Thanks, I've peen poking around the forums and I agree that there seem to be some truly helpful people out there.
Now as far as Insurance rates go, believe it or not Progressive views the RX8 as a high performance sports car (meaning you pay an extra fee), where as the STi is just considered a 4dr sedan to them. With my record the difference between the 2004 RX8 and a 2006 STi was an annual savings of $600, which equates to $50 a month. The person I spoke with said that if it wasn’t for the high price value of the STi, rates would be relatively the same. Now keep in mind that this is based on my driving record, age, state and all the other million things that they factor in. To sum things up the RX8 could save you some money over an STi but in the general scheme of things it really depends on you and your history.

Thanks everyone for the great welcoming. Peace

Back from the dead!
I figured I’d resurrect this thread from the dead and post an update. I guess the friendly “Hello, RotaryC4!
We've noticed that you've not been active on RX8Club.com for quite some time now, and we miss you! We've made numerous changes to the site recently, why not take a look.” reminders prompted me to speak my peace.
So after a few weeks of driving the 8 and beginning to really enjoy it, I decided it was time to give it a nice detailing. As I’m waxing the car and really getting close to the paint I notice a few faint paint lines under the hood which prompt me to do some further inspection. I decide to remove some of the weather stripping along the passenger door only to expose more paint lines and overspray. At this point I can’t believe what I’m seeing, so I take the car to a buddy of mine who works at a local body shop. After a few minutes of inspecting the car, he tells me exactly what I suspected. He says that the car must have been in a front end accident which was significant enough that it required some bondo and painting of the whole front end including the passenger door. He then goes to say that it was some of the best bodywork and painting he’s ever seen. It literally took inspecting the car with a paint meter to truly tell it had been repainted.
Long story short, I go back to the dealer and bitch like no other. They tell me that their not liable since they go by the CarFax Report which shows up clean and CarFax relies on the DMV for all their information, so unless the body shop discloses the info to the DMV, there’s no way for CarFax to know. After a lot of back and forth, they admit to knowing of the car being repainted (because the original owner was an employee who worked there) and offer to buy the car back, but expect me to loose about $4000.00 on the deal.
A Few weeks later I find a used 05 STi at some random dealer lot and inspect the living hell out of it. He offers me about $2000 less then what I originally paid for the 8 and I work him down to a really low price on the STi. We shake on it and here I am about a year later.
All in all, the whole ordeal actually worked out for me in my favor as I’m back in the car that I want to be in and I get to say that I’ve owned an 8 at one point . I just wish I could have had the opportunity to autocross it before reverting back. Well, that’s all folks, hope that explains why I haven’t been active in so long. Peace!

wow, what an ordeal! Glad to hear everything worked out at the end.
Definitely a bummer you didn't get to really have fun with the 8 at the track but now you have the sweet music of BOV's once again.
