Hey all, new owner here. I picked up a 2006 RX-8 manual in black with a little under 20,000 miles on it a few weeks ago. Loving every minute so far but the car seems to garner some unwanted attention. Lots of cars trying to race me. I actually found out these forums existed from someone that was trying to do just that.

I was out cruising around the Milwaukee area this week on some of the first nice days of the year. I pulled up to a light and a blue Lancer pulls up beside me at a light, ricer wing and all. He motions to me to roll down my window when I look over at him so I oblige. He asked me if I was on RX-8 club so I asked him what it was. He told me it was a car forum, blah blah blah and that it was full of a bunch of idiots that think their cars are god's chariot. Said his name was Mike on the forums, not sure what a Lancer driver is doing on an RX-8 forum. He then asked me if I had any engine problems yet and then started to spout off about how unreliable the RX-8 is. He then quickly changes the topic and asks me if I want to "run" and revs his engine a few times. I just shook my head and before I knew it the guy takes off.

He must have missed a gear or something because I saw the car buck violently followed by a big puff of smoke and then quickly slow down. Or maybe he saw the cop he had just passed that was quickly on his *** after he went by lol. Was a 35 zone and he was going much faster than that. Anyhow, Mike, if you read this, I hope your car is alright, but you deserve whatever ticket you got by trying to race people.

Hopefully there won't be more stories like this and pople will just let me drive my car around in peace. Either way, I love this car!

Lancer fanboi sounds like a tool. You should have told him to hold while he was talking and rolled up your window.

 

He seemed nice at first and interested in the RX-8, but that quickly changed.

 

You're first hint should had been the riced out Lancer. No good could have come from that conversation.

 

Thought would have been an enthusiast as well since he had a car that looked like it had some work done to it. Didn't look riced out other than that big wing that some of them come with. Oh well, live and learn.

I've had the same type of experiences, the latest being a middle-aged woman a Camry. Maybe she was just digging my shiz....

 

Could have been, "I'm Mike" sounds a lot like "I'm Ike" is he in Wisconsin and does he own a blue Lancer? If anyone knows him find out if his engine went pop and what kind of ticket he got

 

Thats him. He used to have a blue Sti and then bought a blue Evo.

 

Well tell him to stop street racing and being such a jerk. He really seems to hate you guys for some reason, seems like a great site to me!

I wish it was, but guys like Ike are about the only thing I don't like about this car so far. No one ever bothered me in my MP5, but I guess it's the price you pay by having a beautiful and fast car like the RX-8.

Went back and forth on that one, but wanted some people to be clued in and hopefully not ruin it for the less observant. At least I got a couple people, but wasn't nearly as good as the one from 4 years ago...
