New model

Hello. Right now I plan to have an RX-8 as my next car. However I still have to pay off my current car for another year or so before trading it in will be feasible. When I do get the car I do not want it to be outdated in a years time. Is there any clue as to when the next model RX-8 is going to be released? Any help would be appreciated.

This is just my educated speculation:

Mazda will launch a 300hp Mazdaspeed RX8 in the near future. It'll probably cost around 33-35k (for the base model).

Mazda will launch a 300hp RX7 two-seater coupe. It will be even lighter than the RX8 and post 0-60 times easily under 5 seconds. It will also cost around 35k.

Hmm.. So so far there is no word of a new body style then? Well I guess it doesn't matter for now. I still have to keep this car for at least another year.

Well hopefully I'll be part of your club in the future! I guess I should have introduced myself first. Im Keisuke and I'm pleased to meet you! Right now I own a 2006 VW Jetta 2.5 pkg 1. Its a nice car but its FWD and it has auto transmission. Suffice to say its not a very fun car. However I did notice that the torque in my car is about the same as the RX-8 (RX-8 has about 20 more lbs.) There's just a big HP difference. Coupled with the fact that with the auto trans and the 2.5 I really can't mod the performance without spending some $$$.

You shouldn't worry about that, you can't do it in the 8 either

Yeh but at least the base power is better than what I have now. I have 150 horsepower with my jetta. I mean its enough so that I know that I'm not running on gerbils but other than that its not very fun.

Welcome to the forums, and hopefully you will be an owner someday. I think there is a lot of speculation as to wether or not we get an MS RX8 or a new RX7...but there is not much info to go on other thn educated (some uneducated) guesses, and a lot of high hopes. As is, the 07 RX8 will hardly even have any changes made to it to differentiate it from those currently out. SO, I think you will be safe to buy the 8 and stay current. Hopefully in another year before you lose your Jetta, we will know something more then.

No sarcasm. Just my guess based on rumors and reports I've read online and in car magazines. That's all.

Getting 300hp out of an n/a two-rotor rotary is one thing, but selling a 7 and an 8 simultaneously is another. It would probably make things more costly for Mazda.

I never said naturally aspirated. I would expect both the Mazdaspeed 8 and the 7 to be turbocharged.

Selling them simultaneously shouldn't pose too much of a problem. One is a practical sports car and the other a hardcore 2-seater and impractical sports car.

Turbocharged, they wouldn't pass emissions, unless they figured out some new tuning.

Selling one rotary-powered car is barely paying the bills, and selling two wouldn't be cost-effective for Mazda. They already have the Miata, RX-8, Turbocharged 6 Sedan, and the new Mazdaspeed 3 is coming out soon. A 7 wouldn't fit into the lineup, unless they replaced the 8 with it. You don't want two cars cars competing in the same market, practical or not. The RX-8 competes with the S2k and 350z, for example.

I wouldn't mind a new 7, of course.

Raptor that picture is awsome.. its obviously a custom job but damn it looks sweet. Though I'd miss the odd *** looks I get when I open the back door hehe..
I'd honestly say we are not gonna be seeing a new model or revision for awhile. One would suspect some auto mag would have some form of spy photo's or atleast one of those "A company insider reports....." from a respected magazine like Car and Driver. Though if you hear about Nissan redoing the 350Z I'm sure Mazda will follow suit shortly afterwards.

Mazda is pretty tight lipped about their future plans. There have been some rumors that there will be a MAZDASPEED version of the 8 probably in the next year or two, but rumors like that have been around for a long time. I can't imagine the 8 staying the way it is for 3 more years with no changes, but no one really knows for sure.

Kind of gamble buying now, but if you buy at the end of the year, you'll likely get HUGE discounts. Some were getting 8-9k off MSRP on end of the year 2005's.

^_^; yeh sorry about that. I noticed the sub-forum like 5 minutes after I posted. Anyway I don't plan to do anything till maybe february. Even if they did come out with a two-seater seven I would probably still get the 8 cause a two seater would be too small for me. Hell I'm used to retarded amount of space the Jetta gives me. Getting used to the RX-8 will be hard enough.

why does everyone think the 7 is going to return? there were no production gaps and the rotary cars have followed increasing numbers. even if they make a 2-door, 2-seat rotary powered sports coupe, they probably won't call it RX-7, and even if everyone wants to think that it IS... it WON'T BE

I agree on that point well enough to say that as long as Ford has a hand in it, the 7 will be forever a page in the history of rotary powered vehicles.

Don't get me wrong, I love the FC & FD, but I also remember the days of the Rotary Wagon.
