New motor improvement?
ok so alot of my friends have been giving me grief about the rx8.
saying it's worse than the rx7
i know that and except it.
but oen thing they won't get over is they say mazda is coming out with a new versioin for teh rx8 with a better engine.
all ive heard is the new rx8 will have minor body modifications
and teh new shinka like model.
anyone hear anything to this extreme as a major engine modification.
and if so is it convertable to older 8's?

He's as bad as Can
There is nothing you can say that will get your friends to praise you for your choice of car. So why bother with them, do you enjoy your RX-8? If yes talk about something else and enjoy your car. AS for major power improvements from Mazda that is no likely to happen anytime soon. Any “ Rotor Head “ already has one and pricing any faster RX-8 near $40,000 re-creates one of the problems of the last RX-7. A convertible while more likely than a faster RX-8 drastically changes one of it’s key features, holding four people with ease.

consider that the rx-7 was priced much higher - close to twice as much as the rx-8 when you factor in inflation.
also consider the fit and finish and gas mileage compared to the rx-7.
finally, consider how much hp the rx-8 makes NA.
Give it 2 more years. Then most of the initial rx-8's will be out of warranty and the aftermarket turbo/sc kits go more mainstream.

The RX-8 is more reliable than the RX-7, has better fit and finish, better ride control, better build quality, and a more usable interior, a longer standard warranty, with a can-make-do backseat when needed.
Even though it's normally aspirated, it's not that much slower than a RX-7.
I say that the RX-8 has more goodness than the RX-7, as a sum of its individual attributes, at 2/3rds the price (in inflation adjusted dollars).
Tell your friends to stick that in their pipes and smoke it.
All this talk of the superiority of the RX-7 solely because of its turbocharged rotary is overblown.
My kingdom, my kingdom, my kingdom for a slightly better 0-60,
and a slightly better 1/4 mile...

I have two 3rd gen RX-7's and an RX-8. While the 8 is not the performance powerhouse that the FD - 7 once was , the 8 is hands-down a better all-around car. The engine has 70 more horsepower than the last NA rotary with the exact same gas mileage. It is a nice compromise between practicality and performance. The reason I keep an older 7 around is because it's my all-time favorite car and it still gives me a sexual experience everytime I drive it. That being said, the 8 is something I can have fun in EVERY DAY. I can flog the crap out of it and know that I will still be able to make it home. And even though it's down on power from a G35 or 350Z, I have yet to come up against some guy who had the ***** to put all that power to use.
Any naysayers about reliability should call me up and I'll give them a ride in my 85 THOUSAND MILE RX-8 that runs just as good today (if not better) as the day I drove her home. When this thing hits 100k miles I'm sending a pic to MazdaUSA (which should be sometime this year).
Tell your d-bag friends to eat a d#ck !!

Most couch car enthusiasts are magaine number jockeys.
The RX-8 in not making super peak HP numbers at dynos, the RX-8 is not making amazing 0-60 runs in testing. That is a fact.
But the Renesis engine allows for the amazing RX-8 package- a package that will keep up with a 350z or s2000 in braking and curves but with a back seat and a more compliant suspension set up. the car is burdened by the exotic looks, but also under appreciate because its peak HP numbers.

It's not worse, it's just different. It will take time for it to become great. We just need to stay dedicated and support rotary developements.

JDM magazine rumor (which have actually been pretty accurate)...
11/2006
"Minor change" (facelift) for the RX-8
Slight increase in power
What that will actually pan out to be... who knows.

Remember, bud. Whats important is that YOU like your car.
I realize mine isnt the fastest out there.
But...
I can out-handle 90% of drivers in their cars, I can impress by looks/Nav/etc.
If it makes you happy, thats what's important. Screw your friends opinions. Shrug them off.

I've owned one SA/FB, drove an FD (R) a couple of times, and now the 8. The 8 is closer in 'feel' to the SA/FB, and makes the FD (R) feel like an unrefined road-monster (which it was.. terrifically fast, that car was, but it'd pound the filling outta yer teeth.)
For day-to-day, gimmie the 8 in a heartbeat.
Sounds like your buddies are fixated by numbers. In reality, numbers mean squat, how the car feels to you means everything. If it feels good, I'm satisfied even with something as "slow" as a Miata or MG or Triumph. Conversely, a 250+hp tub of lard like an Eclipse or 3000GT leave me with an uncontrollable urge to yaaaawn. It ain't the numbers, it's the feel. Good luck explaining that to your numbers-fixated friends.
So.. do you worship numbers on some magazine, or does the car plant a really big grin on your face? Only you can decide.
PS: The 8 isn't a replacement for the 7, the 8 is a completely different idea. Still a sports car, but a different kind. Like comparing a 550 Spyder to a 911.

Top Gear loves RX8.
Top Gear race track: RX8 and 350Z lapped the same time, driven by the same driver - the stig.
Now, if you friends know about cars so much, they must know about TopGear. Ask them to explain the results from TopGear and why those guys love RX8.

next time you hear an RX-8 rumour from your freinds(unles the are a mazda bigwig or the child of said bigwig) ask yourself one question-
Q. Have you read this on RX-8club?
A Yes- Then enlighten your freinds with the correct information gleaned from perusing the threads here.
B. No- Tell your freinds to find more reliable sources of info. then shove them in the back seat of your 8 and run them thru the twisties at high rpm/low gears(staying with in the speed limits of course

People crack me up who thrive on numbers and there friends talks shi* about the car...My first bet is when they pull up un there Civic and it is as old as dirt, and one of your OEM wheels cost more than their car. best thign is when all these numbers come out they are done by what I would say pretty much a pro driver! So hwo many peopel on the road do you think have that much skill to drive that car like it was in the magazine??
Tell them to blow you....you are driving a piece of history...RX8 = highest reving production car!

Btw, I don't understand people who buy the car because they loved it on the test drive and fell in love with the look and feel but then are unhappy b/c their idiot friends don't see the HP numbers in a magazine.
Are you happy with the car? Does it still put a smile on your face when you drive it? If so, who gives an f what your friends think!
