New and No licence, But there's hope =)
Hey,
I'm new to this site and new to driving
I just turned 15 which means in 1 year I'll have my license... Since I'm not mega rich I want to decide on what car I'm going to buy so I can start saving for it from now and tell my parents to do so too lol. Gas mileage doesn't matter to me so any size of engine will do. Till now I've been a computer freak but it was mainly because I had a long way to go till i get my license so I didn't really care about cars. My budget is $15k (damn lol) plus around 2-5k for body kits, wheels, spoilers, etc..
So, that said, as you can predict RX-8 is on my list of choices.....
Here are the cars I've been considering (no particular order):
1) Toyota Celica
2) Mazda RX-8
3) Mitsubishi Eclipse
4) Nissan 350z
if i really had to pick, Toyota Celica is my first choice... Main reason being is that my dad has driven more 11 Toyotas in his life and NONE of them had any major problems.. just the routine wheel changes, breakpads, etc .. That is the only reason my opinion is a bit bias right now.. convince me wrong XD!
They're all so nice looking (except Eclipse only looks nice from the back XD) so it all comes down to the most bang for buck... I have no experience with cars as you know... so was wondering if anyone could help!

I'd get the celica. With a 15k dollar budget you are looking at a used 04. You would have more fun with mods on the Celica unless you are planning f/i and with a 2-5k dollar budget it doesnt sound like it and F/I is not the best option for someomne your age as a daily driver. All that and your family seems to be big into toyotas, id get the celica.

Brace yourself, because you may get flamed for being so young.
But a couple of things-
1) Getting into cars at a young age is good
2) Learning to drive these cars at a young age is a bit difficult (at least the RX8 and 350z)
3) Learn to search at the top of the page. General questions tend to get more jokes at the poster's expense. Specific questions are more welcome.
4) Other than that good luck. You may get a few angry posts thrown your way in this thread, but my advice to you is to respect the (good) cars. Be a good/safe driver. And when you feel like racing, take it to the track.
that is all,
michael

well im not trying to be negative or anything, but your 15. enough said.
but to continue, you are just learning how to drive. why would you buy a rx8, or 350z? you have a VERY high chance that your going to get in a crash, than were are you. a busted rx8 and insurance thats more than your car payment.
with respect i saythis, but since you want bodykits, "rims", and spoliers you are probly going to drive fast and race. which even greater the odds of you crashing.
get a celica, or eclipse. good cars, fun to drive, great to learn stick.

For your budget, I would recommand Celica or Eclipse as well.
However, for your age, I would suggest Altima, Camry, or Accord. Not because you're too young to drive sports car. It's about insurance and your own safety. And these 3 cars (especially Altima) has very good aftermarket support as well.
2k isn't really enough to modify your car unless you get cheap knock-offs. IMO you'll be better off using those 2k to get a better car.

I'd say for your first car at age 16 plan on destroying it within the first 6-12 months. I would get a beater. Insurance and gas will be cheaper, you won't stress as much if you scrape into something or drive over a parking block. Having a beater in some ways is more fun than having a nice car, generally easier to take care of, and more relaxing to learn to drive in. If you're like most people, you'll have some fender benders in your first 12 months of driving. Just my .02
