A new owner of a '09 RX-8

Last night I got my hands on a 09 RX-8 which I got a real decent deal on the car. I was wondering what I should do with my new car, any suggestions? The only issue I have with this car so far is that its right taillight glass is cracked on the far right side which I obviously need to get fixed. I'm going to stop by the local Mazda dealership here and tell them the glass started to crack as soon I drove back to my town and since I have warranty they'll be able to fix it for free?

You got nothin' to lose by asking. And I think it's plastic – not glass.

Aight I bought the car with that piece already damaged so I'm a bit paranoid that they'd *** me over but I'll ask.

If you bought it ALREADY damaged then I don't think they would be f-ing you over by not replacing it. But it doesn't hurt to ask. Good luck and congrats on the car.

that could have been a sale point for either a lower amount of money or for a fix before sale but I doubt they will cover it now that it has been sold

Yeah, I did notice there was dirt in that right taillight and I kept wondering how it got in there. The salesman didn't tell me how it got in there. I signed the papers but it was bugging me so I went and checked out that taillight then I saw the damage. The salesman was real shady and I asked him why is it there he told me "it's an used car". Pretty ridiculous if you ask me and this dealership was in phoenix I live in tucson btw so I'd have to go to my local mz dealership and hope the warranty will cover the damage.

Well I was just at my dealership and they quoted me $996 to get it fixed. Warranty doesn't even cover the damage despite me having platinum warranty... I have to go to my insurance company it seems.

996? You can buy brand new tail lights on eBay or amazon that are oem and takes 5 min to install. I just did my passenger side.

There is 0 chance of the dealer replacing a taillight under warranty. Unless you can somehow prove that it broke without touching anything or being hit. Thats the type of thing you discuss with the dealer before purchasing the car, as an incentive for you to buy. Although I asked one dealer to fix a taillight with water in it and was told "its used its not a new car, thats how it comes" so I didn't buy that one lol.

Well, I looked on ebay and they don't seem to have 09 or newer taillights.

The 09 and newer lights might be a little tougher to come by. Your best bet might be to call around to various junkyards in your area and see if they have any wrecked 09 and up rx8s. No doubt many people have totaled their s2 8's just gotta hope you get lucky and find one. You could also post in the for sale forums here and see if anyone has one. Not sure on what a dealer would charge for this but I am guessing WAY to much.

When I needed a window switch for my last car I had to call about 15+ junkyards just to find one with my car and it ended up being really far away, hopefully you have better luck.

It doesn't sound very encouraging but it's something I'll try.

the tail lights are plastic. post a want to buy ad here on the forum in the classifieds and see if you can come up with the tail light here. ebay would be your next best option followed by craigslist.com. the light install shouldn't take more than 20 mins once you have the new light. you may want to order a new gasket for the light once you get it.
