New owner first impressions and question
Hi guys,
New owner of 2011 Rx8 Sport. Local dealership had some great prices on rx8's last month so traded in my 2006 Subaru STI in for one (got $15k for the STI with 75k miles - woot). Gotta say I love this car way more than the STI. I miss the power a little, but the 8 is way more fun to drive, handles better and wow - it's comfortable. The 9k RPM is a big part of the fun. STI had a 7k rpm redline, but felt and sounded like it would blow apart at about 6k. RX8 is smooth all the way up to 9k. Kinda sad this will be the last MY of the rx8.
I'm getting about 16 MPG (about what I got with the STI) and have burnt a quart of oil in 1100 miles. This seems to be on par with what most people get from what I've read on the forums so far. I'm using 5w-20 mobil super 5000 conventional motor oil (API service SN). Anybody have experience with this oil? Seems to be fairly new. Glad to meet you all!

What color did you get? Black, red, or silver?
I picked up a Black 2011 a couple weeks ago, also.
I used a quart of oil in right about 1k miles, also.
The Mobil is probably what I'm going to choose when I do my first oil change when I hit the 3k mile mark.
Enjoy the car,
BC.

Nice choice in moving into a brand new RX-8! Happy to know that you're appreciative of the how 8's personality is. Seems like you were prepared & ready to move into this new beauty of yours...
Did you own the STI from the very beginning and since the time it was new?

Holy many responses, batman. Sorry for the delay. Girlfriend's birthday over the weekend = time vampire. Heh. Thanks for all of the responses. I'll try to snag some picts tonight after I wash the car (damn tree pollen).
@Bladecutter. I got the color and trim that I wanted. It's a Silver Sport MT - keeping it simple. I got pretty lucky as they only had 5 cars on the lot and the silver sport was the only MT. Whew. They had a blue R3 out there a week or two before I got my Sport.
@monchie. +1 on the oil. I was checking once a day for a about a week to get a feel for it, heh. I'm pretty much letting it get down to the first dot, and then topping it off. Dipstick is a little hard to read sometimes, but STI was worse so no big deal.
@ThatNewGuy. I was looking for mobil clean oil, but it looks like they discontinued it and now are putting out mobil super. Looks like the same stuff pretty much.
@Texas RX8 R3. I owned the STI from the beginning. Don't get me wrong, it was a great car. Fun to drive and raw as hell (2004 MY didn't have a radio from the factory, heh). Only big issue I had with it was the oil pickup tube going around 32k miles which toasted the engine and turbo (happened to a lot of 2006's). That completely sucked, but subaru took care of me on it with no hassle and it ran great if not better after they fixed it.
RX8 has been great so far. Every opportunity i get I'm driving it =). Looking forward to keeping it a long time. I don't mind the xtra maintenance at all. Makes it more fun to own imho.
