New owner hello all

Welcome to the best...
...site for us RX-8 lovers and owners! :D
The car is pretty much trouble free in my experience...I've had mine for about 8 weeks now and just went over the 2000 mile mark. The only things I would suggest you research/read up on are:
1.) You should try not to turn your car off without the engine having come-up to operating temperature. Many horror stories about engine flooding can be traced back to this.
2.) Learn to properly check the oil level of your car and keep up on it. The rotary burns oil as a normal part of its operation, so it's advisable to check it on a regular basis (I check mine every Saturday morning) since consumption can vary depending on how/where you drive.
There is A LOT of great information, experiences and help on this site...you can learn a lot here! Have to say that one of the most pleasent surprises in buying the 8 is discovering that I've become part of a very enthusiastic community.
Welcome to the club and enjoy your car!

Re: Welcome to the best...
I have 1000 miles on the car and so far I had lost very little oil. It is still close to full. So, unless you drive a couple of thousand miles a week, checking it evry week is overkill.

Thank you for all the responses. I am glad everyone is enjoying their cars as much as I am. This is actually my husband's screen name (lol 14s). The car is still pretty quick auto and all. Flooding huh? My RX7 used to flood all the time. Is it ok if I manually shifted and redlined the car with only 86 miles? My husband said it's good to stretch the motor every once in a blue moon when it's breaking in. Are these cars broken in from the factory? Also, does anyone have performance numbers for the automatic? Can't seem to find it anywhere. I know it has 5 more ft/lb of torque than the stick and 41 less hp. Thank you all and enjoy your 8s.

When breaking it in:
- Go not go over 6000 rpm on the manual, maybe less on the auto (4k?)
- Do not accelerate hard.
- Do not go at one speed for a long period of time.
- Try to keep your rpms changing, fast, slow, fast, slow.
Keep that up for your first 600 miles.
