New owner and Hello to the board!

Just purchased an 07 Grand Touring model, Stormy Blue Mica w/sand leather interior.....God I love this car! I'm looking forward to getting some good information from this board (already found a possible solution to my ipod/sirius problem with the Sylfex site). The Bose system sounds great, love the sirius satellite, the complimentary cup warmers (good for coffee, bad for soda...). After driving a Honda Odyssey for 5 years i feel like i'm flying a jet now. I've had my eye on the RX8 ever since I first saw one and I didn't know i'd be this pleased with the vehicle.

Just curious, does anyone actually have to add oil every other fill up? Do you have to run it really hard to need to add a half a quart or so?

Merrill

Welcome and congrats on the new car. I just check my oil level each time I fill up and keep a bottle of oil in the trunk for when it needs it. But I think I might have the old dipstick... not sure though lol (if anyone knows how I can tell that would be nice )

During your break-in its best if you the dip-stick every other fill-up. The oil consumption will decrease over time. Oh and pleaseeeeeeeeee shoot us some pics, stormy blue is a new colour and none of us have seen it! at least i havent =d

I think the old dipstick has a L and F line. The new one has 4 holes to it.

Oil consumption will depend on your driving (RPM and TPS)

welcome to the forum

you may want to check it a few times right now just to make sure it isn't consuming fast. i however, only run low if i push the car hard occasionally, which if i do, ends up being around 1000-1500 miles.

Have fun with your 8!
I check my oil every time I get gas. After 6,200 miles, I've added very little oil. Maybe a third of a quart twice.

I have needed to add a quart about every 1500 miles - but that was before the new flash - it may be more often now.

Welcome to the forum, I love the color you chose.

I have 32k miles on my car. I've added 2 quarts over the life, and that was early on. Congrats on your new obsession drmrw, and thanks for the pics. The color is positively beautiful!

Welcome!

I agree on the color. That's the first time I looked at any pics of stormy blue mica...it's beautiful. Maybe it'll show a few less scratches than my black?

You know if i were you after the break in period. i would research PREMIXING. i recommend it to every one while some dont believe in it, some won't drive without it.

Believe me IN MY OPENION, premixing will make your car live for longer longer longer times... Welcome aboard. beautiful color, and the sand is just classy love it

Thanks Eddie! I was really worried about the A/C working well because of what I had read about the earlier models, but the air works very well so far... Thanks everyone for the compliments on the color! What's wierd is that when I showed up to the office today, both the women I work with asked my why did you take your car back? And I said "what are you talking about" and they said that b/c it was overcast outside that the car looked black today.....weird huh?

Is there a purple tint to stormy blue?? that side pic looks like it has a small purple tint to it, like a dark purple. not a bad thing, actually its a good thing cause it looks like its a mix between dark blue and purple. like indigo lol. Congrats on the new ride!! I only had to add like half a quart and i have 2000 miles. The car doesnt' really burn that much oil. In fact i thought i would be adding oil every 500 miles but that isn't the case so far. As others have said i think you can go 1000-1500 before adding 1 qt of oil, if anything.

Also run it hard once in a while during break in too, gets the carbon out. i dont mean redline it but bring it up occassionally to 7K. Let it go through it cycles.

Is the break-in period 600 or 1000 miles?

welcome. I usually check my oil every other fill up. I usually have to add about a half to a full quart in between oil changes.

Break in is 600 miles according to the Manual. I say drive it like you normally would, no need to really hold back the rotary, it loves to rev. just make sure its warmed up before you go higher up the revs like 5K +. As long as your not revving the **** out of it at every stop light, you should be ok.

Why would you run premix on a complete stock car? That is completely stupid. I ran my last rotary to over 200K. I left it stock, filled my Castro GTX oil and called it a day. None of the premix BS, that's what the OMP are for. It's absolutely stupid, I don't see guys running premix doing much more than 10-15K miles a year.
