New Owner And Loving It!

Hey all. I just wanted to say hello and let everyone know how excited I am to have my first 8. I bought a Ti Grey manual Grand Touring 04 with 41k from a local seller who'd just purchased an 08 Mini S. Car was 5 months of bumper to bumper left and 1.5 years of powertrain. The car is in great shape, save for two tiny dings which I had PDR'd yesterday. I love it thus far and couldn't be happier.

I've read up on a lot of threads regarding flooding and still have a question or two that I'd like some help with. The car has a newer battery, and was flooded once by the previous owner's wife.

Here is the hypothetical scenario:
1. I drive to mall and car gets up to operating temp....
2. In mall 2 hours, so it cools down some.
3. Get back in car and drive 5 minutes to restaurant, temp gauge not halfway, lets say it gets to 1/4
4. Can I shut it down here with no worries? Should I rev to 3k for 10 secs, or is that only for completely cold shut-downs?

Thanks for the help. I love this car and can't wait for the weather to clear up so I can put the summer wheels and tires on!

The only options I know that are missing are Nav and Appearance package. I plan on ordering the aero parts in the next month or so from finishlineperformance.com and can't wait to install them.

Congrats on the new car and welcome to the club.

Considering the scenario you provided you should have absolutely no chance of flooding. Once you've actually driven the car from point A to B then you would almost have always eliminated the chance for flooding by revving the car to at least 3000 rpms multiple times. Unless you are really trying, it is hard to even drive anywhere in the manual without at least hitting 3000 rpm in 1st and 2nd gears unless your are really shifting prematurely.

I would worry more about the flooding in situations like: a) you start your car 100% cold and then realize you forgot something inside and then shut it off without the car even moving or b) You repark the car from a 100% cold start without actually cycling through multiple shifts.

If you are worried just give it a rev or two to 3000 rpm before shutting down to be sure.

Enjoy!

Hello and Welcome ....... I like to stay on the safe side and make your it's up in temp , but thats me . Most of those issues have been taken care of . If all your update are done it should be okay . Like mention by JRichter just don't risk it , from a cold start .

Enjoy :

welcome to our world. life will never be the same my man. if unsure, get back behind the wheel and just drive up the street and circle someone's parking lot for no good reason other than to hear the whistle of those two lil rotors running for their lives. i do! in the process, you (A) go through multiple shifts (B) become possitive that you've gotten your machine up to propper operating temps (C) get one last smile because you realize this machine is one of a kind.

heh, i do the "mazda" procedure, waste a bit of gas but ppl will look like u like crazy =D... and u can defend urself if they try to mess with u (cops or watever)

i rev it up to 7500+ open all port for 2 seconds than let it die, once it settles i shut the engine off... i only do this if i am doing like a less than 3 min drive from semi cold start.

Welcome to the club! Personally, I will turn mine off as long as I have seen some movement in the temperature gauge. I have had no issues when doing so.

Don't forget to read your manual all your answers are in there. Remember the engine is oil injected and will need oil added.

Thanks for the tips guys. I've had the car less than 7 days and have already racked up 600+ miles. Most of those were in a cross-state trip back to my hometown to title and register it, but man they were fun!
