New owner needs hlp!

Just bought a
used
silver 04 rx-8 gt (no navi)
paid about 22000 after everything
18,749 miles
warranty still in effect.
At the dealership, the test drive was great. Everything was working well. Clean carfax. can't complain. But I drove it home bout 26miles, put it in the garage. Later went and started it up and the CHECK ENGINE LIGHT came on. Read the manual. Filled up my gas tank. The light is still on. I'm thinking get insurance asap, then hit the dealer. Can any1 else shed some light? (i've searched the forums, but no avail).

It's a check engine light. You go to the dealer.

Check to see if all the recalls are done. Go here for the TSB (technical service bulletin) http://www.finishlineperformance.com/rx8/bulletins.html

Did you make sure the gas cap clicked after tightening it? I guess its trip to the dealer.

Does seem a bit high, but you can't make a judgment on the "after everything" amount unless you know what it includes. Like taxes, extended warranty, and what all.

If it is the gas cap ajar, it may take a few days to reset itself. Mine does. being in jersey I don't get to do the gas myself, so sometimes the guys won't tighten it properly

Sounds like gas cap. Get the new one and get the CEL reset.

Congrats on the car and welcome to the forum

Do you want an honest answer. While I think the car is well worth 22k in terms of what it offers you for the money. That said, I bought my 04 2 months ago with 8k miles. I paid 14k. Granted its a sport MT, not a GT. Also, I live in the North East and these cars resell slightly better than used KIA minivans here. The case may be different where you live.

Kind of hard to keep a good resale value when you can buy a new one for 6k less than sticker price.

Its funny that Edmunds (I think) rated resale of the RX8 as a high point. My Fiancee's civic si purchased used (1 year old) cost more than my 8. We got a good deal on the si too! 350z's are going for all the money though.

The best used bargains I found were:

MS 6 (missed a nice one waiting for insurance check)
RX8
WRX, surprisingly low resale there too
GTO, those are pretty worthless too, great cars though even though they don't handle all that well

MN RX-8 prices are retardedly high right now. That's why I went and purchased a new one - they only cost like $2k more than a used one!

My CEL came on recently. Failed gas cap, replaced free by the dealer under warranty.

according to KBB when I bought my car....that low of mileage on an '04 added 2k to the sale value. So...depending on options, probably a fair price.
