New Owner with Questions

Hey Everyone,
Wife told me to go buy a cheap second car under 20k and I ended up coming home with a 09 RX-8 Sport for 19k with 503 miles, she freaked. No speed demon that's for sure but I've fallen in love with look of this vehicle. 3 questions:

BIG Question: Car salesman that I need to rev my vehicle at high RPM's when I start it and before I turn it off, true or false? I know the rotary is tempermental but really?

Also to keep the rotary in good shape, what range of RPM should I keep it in?

I have the base stock radio: Any good suggestions for a decent aftermarket Nav system that fits well that can be used with the steering controls? Even a decent non-Nav system with XM would be nice also? Crutchfield doesn't help much unless it's over 2k?

Appreciate the help, thank you!

Jeff

1.) Never take the car over about 3500-4000 rpm until up to operating temp.

2.) Never and I mean never shut this car off cold. You will flood it and not be happy. Make sure everyone knows this. If someone moves it.........let's say to wash it or move to the other side of the driveway............then take it for a spin around the block. Some will rev it to 3000 rpm, then shut it off, but I never have.......just don't shut it off cold.

3.) Redline a day keeps the carbon away. I redline mine often in 2nd and 3rd.........once it is warmed up! Capeche?

4.) Nav...........don't know.........I find them kinda useless for the price. Plus, I have internal GPS.

Do some reading and searches on this site, there is lots of good info!

Oh yeah......as Swoope says.....add your location, will help later on........trust us.
Read that manual!

Edit: Oh yeah, as someone said below, check your oil every two gas fill-ups. This motor uses oil and you want to keep it topped off. Not overfilled, just don't let it get so low as to light the idiot light before doing something about it. That's why they call it an idiot light.

Well i can't help much with the NAV question, but as far as the REVVING...revving at high RPM's is NOT necessary when starting or before shut-off. What IS necessary however is ample warm-up time after starting. DO NOT, i repeat, DO NOT drive with a COLD motor...also, DO NOT turn your car OFF with a COLD motor...this will hopefully prevent any FLOODING, which is a common issue it seems. Besides that, check your oil every other fill-up and fill as necessary and you should be good. BTW, when properly warm, the rotary LOVES high RPM's. As they say, a REDLINE a day keeps the mechanic AWAY. (helps clear carbon build-up) Hope this helps!
