New Retractable Key.

I have been reliably informed that retractable keys for US RX-8's manufactured after 01 April 05 have changed from earlier keys. The time required to activate the trunk release button on the retractable key has changed from approximately 0.05 to 0.7 seconds. They changed the time to prevent unintentional opening of the trunk lid when handling the retractable key. So there you go......

Cheers,

Gomez.

You scoff! There are people here who will upgrade....you watch. Save a few flat batteries, this new key will. No more trunk light accidentally running the battery flat 'cos someone bumped the key. Nice move, Mazda.

I removed the trunk light to avoid the problem of accidental trunk opening, so the change in the key is a good idea -- not that I intend to switch.
