new rotary
So after 2 years of debating and testing rx8s I finally bit the bullet and bought one. I have thought this was an awesome car for years and after owning it for the last few days, I was right. I have been back and forth on an 8 or an fd and I think i made the right choice. This will be my 4th rotary I've owned and the second in my driveway currently. Previously owned a 12a fb and a 10ae. Glad to finally be part of this group!

Congrats, I had an 85 GSL-SE.
The RX8 is a different animal than the 1st Gen 7's. You should read the first few posts of this thread to familiarize your self with this car.

Thanks for the info! I actually read through that thread right around thanksgiving, but will go through it again. I have been researching the car for quite a while. Just wanted to be positive when I make a $10,000 commitment. As of right now my lap top shows I have spent 22:55 on rx8club.com haha.
btw forgot to add, my rx7club name was jdm12a, not rxevan.

I think I'm now officially part of the rotary wacko club.
My only rotary has been my trouble free 2005 6MT, which is my favorite car of all time (out of about 12 or so).
I'm seriously debating whether to buy either a 2008 6MT with low miles (to get the extended motor warranty), or maybe one of the last remaining new 2011s in circulation now.
After having test driven about 18 or so vehicles over the past 2 1/2 years (either test drive at dealers, rentals, friends' cars), I can honestly say that the 8 is the best fit for me, and is the best combination of handling, ride quality, reliability, steering/road feel and overall driving pleasure. Hell, I'm even averaging about 21 mpg in 60% city and 40% highway driving, and do not baby her.
I don't mean to offend anyone, and this is purely subjective, but after testing a 2011 & 2012 Mustang (V6 & GT), 2011 Camaro and both a 350Z and 370Z, the 8 has a far more pure driving architecture/chassis as a sports car that can double as a daily driver, even if it does give up significant raw horsepower to these others.
My fear is that if the upcoming Toyota FT 86/Subaru BRZ don't have the reflexes, steering feel and handling/ride quality of the 8, there may be a narrow window of time to replace my car when it reaches a ripe age, and at that point there's no guarantee that there will be anything available at that time with similar characteristics for anywhere near the same amount of money.

Honestly, it's still pretty enjoyable. For the last two weeks I have gone back and forth from one car to the other and thoroughly enjoy both still. While the 8 is faster, smoother and more refined, the 7 just lets you abuse it and is lighter and easier to throw around with less regard haha. I first had an old 12a but the se with an exhaust and intake is such fun and more enjoyable. Only reason I bought the 8 finally is because I made a promise my 7 is going to my little brother in May when he turns 17 so I needed another car to replace it.
